Dream of Winter, Love among Asia. The eagerly anticipated Harbin 2025 9th Asian Winter Games are being organized at full speed. To further enhance volunteer training, management, and utilization, on the afternoon of April 3rd, at the invitation of the Asian Winter Games Organizing Committee and under the guidance and coordination of the university’s Youth League Committee, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering led the organization of a special “Asian Winter Games Student Volunteer Selection Interview”. This selection process involved eight examination rooms with participation from 16 NEFU colleges.

NEFU students enthusiastically participated in the selection process for volunteers at the Asian Winter Games. Initially, 259 students registered, and after preliminary checks and screenings by their respective colleges, 89 were selected to proceed. The Organizing Committee of the Asian Winter Games appointed Wang Qichao and his team of five from the Sports Services Department to serve as interviewers. To ensure the interviews ran smoothly, the Committee also invited Sun Chengwen, a young lecturer in Robotics Engineering, and Weng Hezhang, an undergraduate counselor, to serve as examiners for English proficiency and etiquette, respectively. These interviews comprehensively assessed the volunteers on their manners, appearance, foreign language skills, adaptability, logical thinking, verbal expression, and organizational coordination abilities.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to participate in volunteer service for a major international event during my university years,” said Liu Yawen, a sophomore at the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, who has 13 years of experience in speed skating. She hopes to use her extensive knowledge and passion for winter sports to serve at the Asian Winter Games. Chen Xingguang, a sophomore who recently returned to school after military service, demonstrated the strong will and exemplary conduct developed over his two years in the army to the interviewers at the selection. He expressed his desire to continue his dedication and service to his country on this “new battlefield” at the Asian Winter Games, despite no longer being in uniform. Additionally, student volunteers from various backgrounds, including members of the student council, PhD students, and those who have applied to study abroad, showcased their unique dedication and resolve to contribute to the Asian Winter Games during their interviews. The linguistic, experiential, and skill-based advantages demonstrated by NEFU students made a significant impression on the Organizing Committee of the Asian Winter Games, earning them unanimous praise.

It is understood that the positions required for NEFU’s interview selection included three categories: international guest reception, athlete dining and accommodations, and technical officials dining and accommodation. The selection involved assessing volunteers on five key skills, including language proficiency and emergency response capabilities. The goal is to provide the Asian Winter Games with a highly qualified volunteer team that is enthusiastic, courteous, thorough, and professionally skilled. Despite the tight schedule, heavy tasks, and high demands, the student volunteers who registered for the interviews were generous in spirit and proactive, fully showcasing NEFU students’ extensive volunteer experience and their passion for winter sports.
