Disciplines

1.Goal and Orientation, Research Field, Discipline Leader, and Staff Formation

The main research directions of the Control Science and Engineering discipline consist of control theory and control engineering, detection technology and automatic devices, and pattern recognition and intelligent systems. On the basis of these three directions, a base of teaching and studying is constructed with theoretical research and application development as a whole. Aiming at reaching the domestic advanced level of teaching and studying in the discipline, supplying more talents for upgrading the timber industry in China with the guidance of technologies and scientific theories, we cultivate a group of people who are equipped with a more comprehensive quality of morality, intelligence and physique than similar nationwide disciplines. To achieve this goal, the faculty works hard to incorporate broad international academic communication, enhance international academic influence, foster high level academic personnel, and obtain quantities of significant and original innovation results.

So far, the discipline is made up of 6 professors and 22 associate professors with 6 doctoral tutors, with 80% of the faculty having doctorates. The faculty structure has the characteristics of high-efficiency, reasonable structure and team academic innovation. With the help of elder professors, the young are promoting themselves rapidly in academic thoughts and earn more achievements of teaching and researching. Thus, a brand-new prospect is coming.

The discipline leader, Prof. Song Wenlong, is one of the doctoral tutors. Meanwhile, he is also a New Century Talent, executive committee member of the Forestry Machinery Branch and Forest Engineering Branch in the Chinese Society of Forestry, member of the measuring instrument Specialized Committee in the Chinese Society for Measurement, and a permanent member of the Heilongjiang Institute of automation. His research interest is involved in the detection and control technology on the machining process of forestry engineering. He hosts the National Natural Science Foundation of China, New Century Talent Supporting Program of Ministry of Education and more than 10 projects of Major Science & Technology in Heilongjiang Province. He has published more than 60 scientific articles and edited two academic monographs. He received the Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Heilongjiang Province.

2. Advantage and Feature, Objective and Amount of Personnel Training, Scientific Research Level and Achievements

The development features of the discipline reflect on the combination of academic frontier and application development, research and process, synthesis and crossing of multiple subjects. A multi-disciplinary structure forms with intelligence, integration, precision and information in forestry engineering. In accordance with the structure, the discipline is under the guidance of forestry control engineering and the features of intelligence and optimization, realizing intelligent timber processing control, intelligent supervision, intelligent information processing and management system by means of the knowledge of Cybernetics, Information Theory and System theory, and methods such as advanced control strategies, modern sensing and detecting technology, machine vision, intelligent computing, etc . Until now, there have been more than 40 master’s degree graduates. During their postgraduate period, professors not only pay more attention to the promotion of theoretical level, but also foster their engineering ability in practice. Due to the opportunity of participating in foundation projects, transverse subjects, national significant scientific and research project, postgraduates acquire more skills from practical engineering. Thus, both tasks of education and research are completed. That is the reason why they play a vital role in the national economic construction when they graduate. In the past 5 years, the discipline has focused more on mechanical and electrical control, detection in forestry processing. Several research projects were undertaken, such as national 948 and 863 projects, national foundation projects, and provincial vertical subjects. The number of the articles published is over 200, including 40 SCI/EI journals. In addition, 5 academic monographs were published.

Research funds are nearly ten million Yuan. Simultaneously, more than 10 scientific and research awards of different types, and 18 national patent awards were received.

3. Main Impact at Home and Abroad as well asSocial Services

To further enhance the main impact, the discipline is working to take the next steps which are continuing the communication and cooperation in domestic and international research, maintaining long-term associations and linking with top universities all around the world, exerting advantages on the aspects of team academic heritage, research characteristics and multiple complementary subjects, utilizing modern methods and advanced techniques, tackling the key problems together, reinforcing the cooperation with foreign high-level famous universities, fostering the integration between theory and practical engineering, and speeding up the pace of high-tech achievements. According to thetechnological trends in national engineering fields and the strategic demand for science and technology, the discipline is working to improve specialized research, consolidating the studying resources, strengthening the fundamental and scientific construction, and obtaining theoretical and practical achievement in the fields of timber processing and intelligence control, super micro-material analysis of timber characteristics and wood growth detection, the unique features of the discipline. At the same time, obvious social and economic benefits are generated to supply more high-level personnel for the development of forestry industry in Heilongjiang Province.
