Recently, the National Art Foundation announced the list of 2018 funding projects. The project “Craft Network Display and Communication Platform Construction of SunMao” submitted by Northeast Forestry University was successfully selected as a key project supported by the National Art Foundation. This project is joint directed by Prof. Li Jian from NEFU, a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Niu Xiaoting the director of Antique Furniture Research Center of China, and Ji Liang, the secretary general of the Professional Committee of Chinese Traditional Wooden Products.

The approval of “Craft Network Display and Communication Platform Construction of Sunmao” makes a historic breakthrough for Northeast Forestry University in undertaking this kind of project, which symbolizes that the NEFU research results of antique furniture have been fully recognized by the management department and authoritative experts in the field of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. The approval of this project effectively stimulates art education, design creation and cultural heritage of Northeast Forestry University. According to the “2020 China Traditional Craft Revitalization Plan”, the project team will seize this historic development opportunity, promote the internet communication of Chinese Sunmao wooden art, develop craftsmanship as a responsibility, and make a contribution to the inheritance and promotion of Chinese excellent traditional wooden culture.

The National Art Foundation is a public welfare fund for society, which has been established by the country and led by the government. It provides funding for four major aspects, including creation and production, promotion, collection, and talent cultivation, which aim to prosper art creation, cultivate artistic talents, create and promote quality works, and boost the healthy development of artistic careers. In 2018, the National Art Foundation has approved 955 projects with an approval rate of 13.7%, among which there are 159 funding projects for large stage shows and work creations, 185 funding projects for small dramas and work creations, 187 funding projects for spreading communication, 134 funding projects for the cultivation of artistic talents, and 290 individuals have obtained funding projects for young artistic creative talents. Altogether 107 projects have been submitted by Heilongjiang province and 15 were approved, among which only two projects were for spreading communication promotion funding projects. These are the two separate projects: “Craft Network Display and Communication Platform Construction of SunMao” of Northeast Forestry University, and the project of “Print Exhibition of Great Northern Wilderness” of Jiangbin Farm in Heilongjiang province.
