Recently, NEFU officially signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Calgary of Canada. The “2+2 Cooperation Project” of the two universities was officially launched.

The “2+2 Cooperation Project” is the first Sino-foreign cooperation for the NEFU College of Life Sciences. Outstanding undergraduate students will transfer to the College of Science of University of Calgary to continue their studies after finishing the first two years of the four-year undergraduate study at Northeast Forestry University. Students complete the academic requirements of the program, and both Northeast Forestry University and University of Calgary will award a bachelor's degree to the students. The implementation of this project will promote the internationalization of the NEFU College of Life Sciences and accelerate the pace of teaching reform and innovation. The students will also expand their international horizons and be trained and improved in their independent learning and other abilities.

The College of Life Sciences has had contacts with the University of Calgary since July 2017 and has begun to communicate frequently. The two sides agreed that the two universities have a high degree of fitness and similar teaching objectives in terms of personnel training. Therefore, in June 2018, the “Memorandum of Cooperation between Northeast Forestry University and University of Calgary” was signed, and it is proposed to establish a long-term cooperative relationship.

A few days ago, Mr. Kevin Elwood, the International Cooperation Manager of University of Calgary, and Ms. Heather Cressero, the International Coordinator of the College of Science of University of Calgary, visited NEFU. The two sides not only signed a formal cooperation agreement, but also said that they will take “2+2 Cooperation Project” as an opportunity to further improve the quality of students and will increase different forms of cooperation in order to achieve deeper exchanges and cooperation.

After the project was launched, the staff from both the College of Life Sciences and University of Calgary gave speeches and Q&A to the first and second year students. The college conducts selection and interviews for students who are willing to participate in the program. The first batch of 5 students passed the initial test and is preparing for the English proficiency test according to the requirements of the project. They are expected to study at the University of Calgary of Canada in the summer of 2019.
