The 2018 Educational Robot Competition in China (ERCC) was held recently at the Gymnasium in Beihai Campus of Guilin University of Electronic Science and Technology. After two days of fierce competition, NEFU students won 4 national first prizes, 4 national second prizes, and 1 national third prize. The instructors were all awarded outstanding instructor awards.

The competition was hosted by the China Artificial Intelligence Society, organized by Guilin University of Electronic Science and Technology, and co-organized by the Ministry of Education Machinery Professional Teaching Steering Committee. The 304 teams from nearly 100 colleges and universities from 15 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, including Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Southeast University, Hunan University, Air Force Engineering University, Guilin University of Electronic Science and Technology, and Xi'an University of Science and Technology, etc. Under the instruction of Prof. Yang Jiawu and Prof. Sun Xue, 14 NEU students from the mechanical electronics major from 2015, 2016 and 2017, mechanical engineering majors from 2016 and 2017, as well as electric automation majors from 2017 participated in the educational robot creative competition, firefighting and rescue and high-speed rail tour in China projects.

The educational robot competition aims at examining scientific quality education, engineering quality education and engineering skill education, with the purpose of cultivating innovative talents and promoting educational reform. The four components of the robot’s machinery, control, sensors and software are open and extensible. The competition can train students’ ability to combine theory with practice. The educational robot competition has been valued by the global education community for its enjoyment, challenge, comprehensiveness and confrontation, and has been rapidly developed.

The NEFU students have achieved good results in this competition, which reflects the university’s emphasis on the science and technology innovation for undergraduates and shows NEFU’s talent training quality.
