On the afternoon of October 7, an award ceremony was held in the lecture Hall to celebrate the victory against COVID-19. The university’s leaders presented medals and certificates to 13 outstanding collectives, 67 outstanding individuals, 24 outstanding volunteers as well as 63 units and individuals who had been awarded “Contribution Award for Contributions to the Fight against the COVID-19 Epidemic”.
The meeting started with the solemn national anthem. All the attendees paid tribute to the martyrs and compatriots who died in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, and expressed their deep thoughts and condolences to them.
After presenting the university’s work on fighting the COVID-19 epidemic, Luo Wenhu, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President, presided over the ceremony.
During the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core insisted that people are supreme and life is supreme. With firm courage and perseverance, it quickly started the overall war for epidemic prevention and control together with all the Chinese people. The Party, government, military forces, civilians, and students from all corners of China have achieved major strategic results in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, demonstrating the spirit, strength and responsibility of China. In this nationwide fight, NEFU acted as soon as orders were given, the party committee made overall plans, teachers and students worked together, and people from all walks of life made their due contribution.
President Li Bin read out the “Decision of the Committee of Northeast Forestry University of the Communist Party of China on Honoring Outstanding Collectives and Individuals in Fighting against the COVID-19 Epidemic”. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, under the strong leadership of the university’s party committee, the majority of teachers and students in NEFU have taken the initiative and worked hard. The majority of alumni, people from all walks of life and companies who cared about the development of the university donated money and materials to the university, and a group of outstanding individuals with firm convictions, a strong sense of responsibilities and selfless dedication stood out. In order to give full play to the exemplary and leading role of outstanding models, to boost morale and strengthen confidence, the university selected 13 outstanding collectives in the fight against COVID-19 pneumonia, 67 outstanding individuals, and 24 outstanding volunteers and 63 units and individuals including the Heilongjiang Representative Office of the Chinese Volunteers Association who won the “Contribution Award for Contribution to the Fight against the COVID-19 Epidemic.”
Several representatives made speeches in the meeting including Gao Yujuan, representative of the outstanding collectives, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Minister of the United Front Work Department of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee; Luo Ying, representative of outstanding individuals, Dean of the university of International Exchange; Xia Yifeng, representative of Excellent Volunteers, a 2019-year Engineering Management Student of the university of Civil Engineering; Bi Liyan, representative of Love Contribution Award, a 2001 graduate of the university of Materials Science and Engineering majoring in wood processing, the vice president of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Alumni Association, the president of the Guangzhou Alumni Association, and the general manager of Guangzhou Chenxu Automation Equipment Co., Ltd. They shared stories of fighting the epidemic, saying that they would do their jobs well, never forget their original intentions, overcome difficulties, and work harder to vigorously promote the great anti-epidemic spirit, practice the NEFU spirit, and fulfill their mission.
Secretary of the Party Committee Zhang Zhikun delivered a speech entitled “Promoting the Great Spirit of Fighting the Epidemic and Gathering Strong Force for Progress.” On behalf of the university’s party committee and administration, Zhang Zhikun expressed his highest respect to the commended outstanding collectives and individuals, to party members, teachers and students who had contributed to the fight against the epidemic; to the local governments, enterprises, institutions, alumni and all walks of life that provided selfless assistance to the university in fighting the epidemic, and expressed their heartfelt gratitude; expressed sincere regards to the staff who were still sticking to the front line of prevention and control on campus at this moment.
Zhang Zhikun pointed out that our country’s current struggle against the COVID-19 epidemic had achieved major strategic results, and the order of teaching, production and life was gradually restored. China’s great victory in the fight against the epidemic was rooted in the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China and the sacrifices of the people across the country. It fully demonstrated the powerful governance capabilities of the Communist Party of China and the remarkable superiority of the socialist system with Chinese characteristics. He pointed out that the great anti-epidemic spirit is our precious spiritual wealth and the source of strength for us to overcome difficulties and challenges. We must vigorously promote the supremacy of lives, unity of the nation, disregard of personal gains and losses, respecting science, shared destiny, keeping our family and country in mind, down-to-earth, practical and hard-working spirit and transform them into a powerful force for building a modern socialist country in an all-round way and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Zhang Zhikun reviewed the anti-epidemic work of our university. He said that in the great fight against the epidemic, all the people of NEFU were united, bravely shouldering the glorious mission of epidemic prevention and control and cultivating moralities, made contributions to the victory of the fight against the epidemic. He pointed out that since the outbreak of the epidemic, the university party committee had resolutely implemented the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on “life is the most important of all, and prevention and control is our responsibility”, and made careful deployment, precise investigation, and strict prevention and control at the first place, took responsibilities, protected the NEFUers and earnestly maintained the safety and health of teachers and students and the stability of the campus.
NEFU insisted on “life first” principle and resolutely guarded campus safety; insisted on quality first and innovated online education; insisted on values and courageously strove to be a pioneer in the fight against the epidemic; insisted on humanistic care and solidly promotes morality; insisted on setting an example at the front line of the fight against the epidemic. He said that the majority of party members, teachers, students, and alumni of our university were not afraid of hardships and sacrifices, the courage and determination to fight and win, and bore the responsibility and took actions, willing to giving up their own benefits and even lives to save others. On the NEFU campus and the land of China, NEFU had achieved comprehensive anti-epidemic feat of epidemic prevention and control, and had taken on the mission of “cultivating people and strengthening the university”.
Zhang Zhikun emphasized that we should earnestly study the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the National Commendation Conference for Fighting Covid-19, promote the spirit of the great anti-epidemic, and speed up the construction of a high-level university. He pointed out that the current international situation is rapidly evolving, and the challenges are very severe, and there must be no wave of will or mental slack. We must strengthen scientific prevention and control, take regular epidemic prevention and control seriously, and strive to ensure campus safety; we must keep in mind the original mission, continue to change work style, and strive to win the satisfaction of teachers and students; we must deepen reforms, speed up to solve the weaknesses that restrict development, and strive to make contributions to NEFU.
At the end, Zhang Zhikun emphasized that at the historical moment with the “Two Centenary Goals”, we must promote the great anti-epidemic spirit and gather strength in the process of defeating the epidemic and poverty and building a well-off society. It is necessary to have the spirit of “Success does not have to be with me” and the historical responsibility of “I must be there for success”. We will work hard to build NEFU into a high-level university of China with distinctive features and international reputation, and make greater contributions to building a world power in science and technology and realizing the “Chinese Dream”.
In summing up the meeting, Luo Wenhu pointed out that it is necessary to take the commended collectives and individuals as examples and learn from their spiritual qualities of not being afraid of hardships and dangers, and daring to take responsibility. In the future work and study, we should carry forward the anti-epidemic spirit, do a solid job in normalizing the epidemic prevention and control work, accelerate the construction of “Double First-Class” university, and strive to build NEFU into a world-class forestry university with Chinese characteristics.
