At 10 a.m. on October 23, the conference commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Chinese People’s Volunteers in the war toresist to U.S. aggression and aid Koreawas held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, and President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech. Teachers and students from our university watched the live broadcast with full-hearted enthusiasm. CETV interviewed the viewing activity for the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and the College of Wildlife and Protected Area on site. “Under the leadership of President Xi, we should pass on the spirit of the Chinese People's Volunteers, always remember history, safeguard peace and justice, cherish our hard-won happiness, and push forward the great cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era with determination and courage that will not be overwhelmed by difficulties,” said the teachers and students to the reporters.

Lee Gemin, a North Korean doctoral student majoring in landscape architecture at the College of International Education and Exchanges, said that his grandparents fought with the Chinese People's Volunteers, and since he was a child, he had heard many stories about them, and it was because of China's selfless help to the North Korea that the final victory of this justice war could be achieved. He said that after coming to China, he felt the friendship from the Chinese people even more, and he will work hard to learn Chinese culture and make unremitting efforts to promote the friendship between China and North Korea.

Luo Ying, Dean of the College of International Education and Exchanges, said that her grandfather fought bravely as a volunteer during the war and retired with a Grade 2 disability. She also said that for the sake of national dignity and world peace, our brave predecessors went to the battlefield without hesitation, and won today’s happiness for us. We should cherish this hard-won happiness, be a messenger of cultural exchanges, and help more foreign friends understand China. More importantly, we should unite people from all over the world, work together, and reach the win-win cooperation.

Liu Zhiming, Dean of Aulin College, said that during the war, the whole country was united together with deep hatred for the enemy, and the soldiers of the Chinese People’s Volunteers sacrificed their lives and fought with national prestige and military might, leaving an extremely rich spiritual legacy to the descendants — the great spirit of resisting U.S. aggression and Aiding Korea. As Party members, we must bear in mind the historical experience of the war, insist that the interests of the Party and the people are above all else, guide students to inherit and carry forward the great spirit, remain steadfast in our ideals and beliefs, and march forward with perseverance in the face of difficulties.

Wei Xiaohui, General Secretary of the Party Branch of library, said that the victory of resistance to the United States and aid to Korea not only demonstrated the determination of the Chinese people to resist aggression and defend national security, but also greatly inspired the Chinese people and won a long-term peaceful environment for Chinese economic construction. In the future, the great spirit will surely inspire the Chinese people to overcome all hardships and obstacles, defeat all powerful enemies, and usher in the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Song Yan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Forestry, said that in his speech, President Xi pointed out that we should always forge the national spirit of sacrificing life and living towards death. As Communist Party members, we should carry forward the spirit of resistance to U.S. aggression and aid to Korea, give full play to our exemplary role, continuously enhance the political leadership, ideological leadership, mass organization and social appeal, and forge ahead with determination and innovation in order to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Wang Yun, Dean of the School Hospital, said, “Since childhood, I have listened to the stories of the heroes, and deeply felt the great spiritual strength of their struggle under extremely difficult conditions. In the future, we should inherit and carry on their spirit, remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind and make greater contributions to defending peace and justice.”

Liu Li, Deputy Director of the Laboratory Management and Condition Assurance Department and Secretary of the Party Branch, said that the great spirit is a vivid portrayal of the nobility of the Chinese Communist Party and the army, is the core of patriotism as the concrete embodiment of the national spirit, is a precious spiritual wealth, and it will inevitably inspire us to overcome all the hardships and obstacles, and defeat all powerful enemies. In the future, the branch should study the “Four Histories” in depth, remain true to the original aspiration and keep it firmly in mind while marching towards the goal of the second century with determination and courage that will not be overwhelmed by difficulties.

Professor Wang Wenjie, a botanist at the College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Resource Utilization, said that in the face of the great changes that have not occurred in a century, we should carry forward the spirit of the movement to resist U.S. aggression and aid Korea, defying violence and daring to fight. As university teachers, our foundation should be on teaching to promote scientific research and deepening scientific research to strengthen teaching. On the one hand, we should use scientific and technological innovation to promote the prosperity of our country; on the other hand, we should work hard to cultivate more socialist builders and successors.

Associate Professor Wang Zhuo of the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering said that from the great spirit of resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea 70 years ago to the great spirit of fighting against the epidemic, from the heroic models such as Huang Jiguang, Qiu Shaoyun and Yang Gensi to the heroes in fighting against COVID-19, such as Zhong Nanshan, Zhang Dingyu and Li Lanjuan, the great patriotism and revolutionary spirit of the Chinese nation has never perished. In scientific research and talent training, we should learn from the “three unbelieving spirits” of the martyr Yang Gensi, and his motto “There is no task that cannot be accomplished, no difficulty that cannot be overcome, and no enemy that cannot be defeated”, so as to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation during our march of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and pursuing socialism with Chinese characteristics in a new era.

Zheng Liyuan, Director of the Office of the College of Foreign Languages, said that we were inspired by the important speech of General Secretary Xi Jinping. “The Chinese people have organized themselves and cannot be messed with.” “The Chinese people, inspired by the banner of patriotism, are united in their hatred of the enemy, and have made the world see their great power.” Those powerful words strengthened everyone’s confidence in loving, believing and following the Party. In the future, we will learn from the martyrs on the Korean battlefield, do our job with whole-hearted enthusiasm, implement the fundamental task of establishing morality and educating people, and contribute to the development of our motherland.

Hao Houpeng, a 2018-grade-student majoring in urban and rural planning from the College of Landscape Architecture, talked about how we should remember the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country and the people, who risked their lives to go to the battlefield and shed their blood. “Without their selfless dedication, there would be no happiness for us today”, said he, “As college students of the new era, we can’t be selfish people who only think about ourselves, we must study hard and make our country stronger.”
