Recently, the final of "The Sixth International University Students Intelligent Agricultural Equipment Innovation Competition (IUSIAEIC)" came to an end in Shandong University of Technology. There were over 700 students from 48 universities including China Agricultural University, South China Agricultural University, Northeast Forestry University and Jiangsu University, participating in the competition. In the end, the entries of the NEFU College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering won one first prize, one second prize and one excellent advising teacher award.

The competition, with the theme of "Intelligent Agricultural Equipment, Innovative Future", is sponsored by CIGR, CSAM, CSAE, Synergistic Innovation Center of Modern Agricultural Equipment and Technology, and IUCAE, and undertaken by Shandong University of Technology. The entries were divided into three categories: Category A (Free Topic, Scientific and Technological Invention), category B (Designated Topic, Intelligent Robot) and category C (Enterprise-Oriented Topic). A total of 514 works participated in the competition and 215 were shortlisted for the final. Qu Hongbo, Zheng Chenda, Gou Yaxun, Su Quanming and Liang Shuang, who were selected by the NEFU College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, won first prize in Category A, designing the "Intelligent Perception Man-Machine Cooperative Picking Robot". Chen Longyin, Wu Wentao, Sun Chenghui, Li Zekai and Ran Yue, who designed the "Intelligent Hedge Trimmer Based on Visual Servo", won the second prize in the same category. Li Bin, the director of the mechatronic engineering major, was awarded the excellent advising teacher award.

The IUSIAEIC is held once a year and has been held six times. It focuses on students’ innovative ability in inventing intelligent agricultural equipment. It enjoys a high standard and covers a wide range of fields, as well as high-quality entries. Furthermore, it is a platform which connects colleges, universities, enterprises and industries to comprehensively cultivate students, and it helps to train a number of modern agricultural equipment talents who have "solid professional knowledge, strong hands-on ability and excellent innovative and entrepreneurial ability" and who are urgently needed in the industry.
