On the morning of November 15, the founding congress of the National Innovation Alliance for Wildlife Bio-safety Management and Control was successfully held online. The alliance was approved by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration and initiated by Northeast Forestry University. It includes Nanjing Agricultural University, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing Normal University, Harbin Veterinary Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shanghai Veterinary Research Institute, Beijing Zoo and other 26 units.
At present, China’s bio-safety presents a complex situation of multiple risks, and it faces a series of important problems in bio-safety, early warning and tracing of major diseases, construction of animal disease prevention and control systems, prevention and control of human-animal conflicts, etc.
The main responsibilities of the alliance include the following three points. First, actively integrating into the construction of the national bio-safety risk prevention and control system while serving the needs of the country, and strengthening personnel training. Second, speeding up the research and development of early warning and tracing of major diseases, vaccines, broad-spectrum drugs, and effective comprehensive prevention and control measures. Third, strengthening Industry-University-Research Collaboration, building a scientific and technological innovation platform, and guiding enterprises to strengthen investment in science and technology.
The alliance is an important R&D force in the field of bio-safety in China. All members of the alliance come from universities, scientific research institutions, customs, enterprises, nature reserves, wildlife parks and wildlife rescue centers, forming an integrated entity in Industry-University-Research-Application for domestic wildlife bio-safety research and development. Over the years, members of the alliance have been committed to the integration of big data and artificial intelligence technology, which has comprehensively improved the research technology level of active early warning and tracing of major wild animal diseases in China. At the same time, they have actively strengthened the development and promotion of prevention and control products, serving the grassroots, and their papers are both practical and extensive. Above all, in the prevention and control of COVID-19, many teams within the alliance undertook the research and development tasks of many ministries and commissions, and applied the research technology directly to the prevention and control of the epidemic, which was commended by the government at all levels. The Alliance has repeatedly offered suggestions to departments at all levels on China’s bio-safety, the problems existing in early warning and tracing of major diseases in China, the construction of animal disease prevention and control systems in China, and the prevention and control of human-animal conflicts in China.
The founding congress of the National Innovation Alliance for Wildlife Bio-safety Management and Control is a major event in the field of wildlife bio-security in China, and it is also a major event in the field of bio-safety in China. Whether at present or in the future, China’s bio-safety will still face a complicated situation of multiple risks, which needs to be solved urgently.
