Recently, the Ministry of Education released the Undergraduate Program Catalog for Regular Higher Education Institutions (2026), under which our university was approved to establish 9 new undergraduate majors and 6 second bachelor’s degree programs. Among them, the Intelligent Landscape Construction program is the first of its kind in China. This large-scale, high-quality expansion of academic programs is an important initiative by the university to strengthen higher education’s support for high-quality development and better serve industrial upgrading in Heilongjiang Province by leveraging scientific and technological innovation, industrial development, and national strategic needs.

Newly Approved Undergraduate and Second Bachelor’s Degree Programs

Since the Ministry of Education and four other ministries jointly issued the Reform Plan for the Adjustment and Optimization of Discipline and Program Structures in Higher Education Institutions in 2023, the university has remained firmly committed to the core mission of fostering virtue through education. Closely aligned with major national strategies, the cutting-edge development of the forestry and grassland sector, and the industrial revitalization needs of Heilongjiang Province, the university has vigorously promoted the strategic adjustment, optimization, and upgrading of its disciplinary and academic program structure, guided by a forward-looking vision and strong reform momentum. Over the past three years, the university has added 14 undergraduate majors while suspending enrollment in or discontinuing 9 programs, resulting in an adjustment ratio of 33.8% and achieving dynamic renewal and iterative optimization of its academic program system.

The 9 newly approved undergraduate majors span four disciplines—agriculture, engineering, science, and economics—and are strategically aligned with emerging and pillar industries, including the bioeconomy, high-end equipment manufacturing, and the digital economy. These programs clearly demonstrate the university’s proactive integration into national development strategies and its commitment to supporting the comprehensive revitalization of Heilongjiang Province.

The university has consistently prioritized enhancing program quality as a core element of its development agenda. Guided by the concept of “New Engineering, New Agriculture, New Medical Science, and New Liberal Arts” (“Four New Disciplines”), the university continues to promote interdisciplinary integration and innovation in talent cultivation models. Through comprehensive revisions of undergraduate training programs and by leveraging platforms such as provincial pilot projects for program upgrading, advantageous specialty cluster development, and local “101 Plan” initiatives, the university has further advanced curriculum reform and talent cultivation. Demonstration zones for educational reform—including the university’s “Future Elite Class,” “Top Innovative Talent Class,” and international cooperative education programs—have also played a leading role in reshaping program content and enhancing educational outcomes.

The university will also use the successful launch of the 6 second bachelor’s degree programs as an opportunity to further broaden students’ knowledge structures and enhance their career development capabilities through a distinctive “Major Plus” interdisciplinary cultivation pathway.

Looking ahead, the university will continue to adhere to the principles of demand orientation, characteristic development, and coordinated development. With higher standards, a broader vision, and more practical measures, it will further deepen supply-side structural reform across disciplines and academic programs, contributing wisdom and strength to building a leading educational nation and to the revitalization and development of Heilongjiang Province.
