August 8–9, the 15th Cross-Strait Academic Symposium on Forest Management and Cross-Strait Forestry Exchange Activities was held at Northeast Forestry University (NEFU). Under the theme “Digital and Intelligent Empowerment for Innovation in Forest Management Theory and Technology,” the event brought together more than 240 experts, scholars, and young researchers in forest management from both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Participants shared and discussed the latest research findings, exchanged academic insights, and built consensus and momentum to advance scientific and technological innovation in forest management and promote integrated development in forestry across the Taiwan Strait.

The event was jointly organized by Northeast Forestry University and the Chinese Society of Forestry, and co-organized by the Forest Management Branch of the Chinese Society of Forestry, Heilongjiang Academy of Forestry, the Key Laboratory of Sustainable Management of Forest Ecosystems of the Ministry of Education, and the Heilongjiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Sustainable Forest Management and Environmental Microbial Engineering.

Shen Jinlan, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Forestry, and Sun Long, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NEFU Committee and assistant to the president of NEFU, attended the opening ceremony and delivered remarks.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Zhang Peng, Dean of the School of Forestry. He noted that the symposium would further promote exchanges and mutual learning among forestry researchers on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, advance innovation and development in forest management, and elevate cross-Strait cooperation in forestry to a new level.

In her remarks, Shen Jinlan said that the Chinese Society of Forestry would continue to serve as a bridge and link between forestry professionals on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, facilitate greater sharing of research achievements, talent exchange, and collaborative innovation, and jointly promote advances in forest management and the high-quality development of the forestry sector.

Sun Long introduced NEFU’s history, its strengths in forestry, and achievements in developing the forest management discipline. He expressed the hope that experts and scholars from both sides would use the symposium to deepen academic exchanges and collaborative innovation, jointly promote the high-quality development of forest management, and contribute their expertise and strength to forestry modernization and the development of an ecological civilization.

Following the opening ceremony, Li Fengri, a professor and doctoral supervisor at NEFU, chaired the keynote session. Five experts—Professor Zhou Guomo of Zhejiang A&F University, Professor He Kunyi of National Chiayi University, Researcher Lei Xiangdong of the Institute of Forest Resource Information Techniques at the Chinese Academy of Forestry, Professor Huang Huaguo of Beijing Forestry University, and Professor Dong Lihu of Northeast Forestry University—delivered keynote presentations.

The symposium featured eight parallel sessions, including 114 academic presentations and 18 academic posters. The presentations covered a wide range of topics, including forest growth modeling, forest resource inventory and monitoring, forest carbon sequestration, forest wellness, sustainable forest management, ecosystem services, and forestry remote sensing.

The symposium concluded on August 9. During the closing ceremony, the conference flag was handed over, with Zhejiang A&F University officially taking over the organization of the 16th Cross-Strait Academic Symposium on Forest Management.
