In the new century, nations all over the world strive to explore the effective developmental patterns to combine science and technology with economy, while as the center of aggregation and distribution for high technology research and development and the essential component in the chain of industry-university-research featuring the concentration of knowledge, technology and talents, the institutions of higher learning play a vital role in the national technological innovation system.

With the purpose of inspiring NEFU postgraduate students to further contemplate on research programs and achievement transformation, Prof. John Zhanhu Guo from the Department of Chemistry and Bio-molecule Engineering, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville will be invited to deliver a lecture titled “Contemplation on Research Programs and Achievements” based on his personal experiences of studying and teaching in the United States for NEFU faculty.

Dr. John Zhanhu Guo is an associate professor of the Department of Chemistry and Bio-molecule Engineering, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, who graduated from the Department of Chemistry Engineering, Shandong University of Science and Technology with a bachelor’s degree in 1996; then graduated from the Department of Chemistry Engineering, Beijing University of Chemical Technology with a master’s degree in 1999; and then acquired his Ph.D. of Chemical Engineering from Louisiana State University in 2005; during 2005 and 2008, conducted his postdoctoral research in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the  University of California, Los Angles; from 2008 to 2012, served as an assistant professor at Lamar University, Texas; from 2012 until now, served as an associate professor in the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Prof. John Zhanhu Guo has published more than 350 research papers on major SCI journals such as Chemical Society Reviews, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Angewandte Chemie, Energy & Environmental Science, Journal of Materials Chemistry with over 12,000 citations and the h-index of 63 ( google scholar), invited to deliver academic reports at more than 50 international conferences. Prof. John Zhanhu Guo has co-compiled 6 books in English and won 5 American patents. Prof. John Zhanhu Guo is also a member of the academic institutions like AIChE, TMS, ECS, MRS and SAMPE, whose research is concerned with a diverse range of fields including multifunctional nano-composite materials, advanced nano-composite film which can improve fuel and energy efficiency; chromatic and strain sensor as well as magnetic field sensor devices; electromagnetic interference shielding polymer nano-composites; polymer nano-composites for environmental  remediation; pollutant disposal and recycling; safe and flame resistant materials for industrial and civil use.

Prof. John Zhanhu Guo was appointed as Oriental Scholar by universities in Shanghai in 2014. He is the deputy editor-in-chief of RSC Advance, member of the editorial board of Scientific Report and special reviewer for a couple of SCI journals, who has undertaken a multiple of programs of the National Science Foundation of the United States and applied for a number of international cooperation programs with universities in China.

Welcome all the postgraduates of NEFU to attend.
