On May 12th, Center for Faculty Development invited associate professor Wang Yufeng, an outstanding teacher of NEFU who has won first and second prizes for teaching quality, and lecturer Xu Man, winner of the first prize for Young Teachers’ Contest, to share their teaching experience. The teaching salon was chaired by the deputy director of Teaching Affairs Office Jiang Zhongzhu.
Combined with the teaching practice of the course “Physical Chemistry”, associate professor Wang Yufeng mainly elaborated on three aspects: the purpose and meaning of enjoying classroom teaching for teachers and students, what is enjoying classroom teaching for teachers and students, and how to create the enjoyment of classroom teaching for both teachers and students. He believes that classroom teaching has two main features: For students, they get the knowledge and wisdom, and broaden their horizons; for teachers, they gain a sense of professional accomplishment and happiness of life. For how to create the enjoyment of classroom teaching, Wang states that the first thing a teacher should do is to love his own career, profession, and students. Secondly, the cultivation of students’ character, innovative thinking, and the willingness to devote to the motherland is very important in guiding students positively, and it reflects the function of education. Finally, he stressed that instructional design, teaching content, and teaching methods should always be newer and better, and advanced with the times as well. A teacher has to combine theory, practice, and actual social development, so that his students could wander in the ocean of knowledge, and enjoy the charming “student-centered” classroom teaching.
Based on the CDIO concept, lecturer Xu Man took her course “construction project” as an example, and then elaborated the content of CDIO engineering education, the relationship between CDIO engineering education and the education training plan for outstanding engineer major students, the instructional design including teaching steps, curriculum design and production practice, and as well as practical teaching feedback. Xu believes that CDIO engineering education concept has a high degree of fitness with the education training plan for outstanding engineer major students in the basic objectives, tasks, ideas, methods and contents. With the “student-centered” classroom teaching, teachers need to change the teaching mode in teaching content, teaching methods, assessment methods, and make their courses fully reflect the characteristics of engineering background. Through the feedback of two teaching practice cases, Xu also highlights the guidance and practical significance of CDIO engineering education on teaching.
The two teachers Wang Yufeng and Xu Man shared their years of teaching experience with the other teachers. Their teaching ideas and the teaching methods in the course of implementing the teaching ideas provide an important reference for young teachers.
