On June 5th, 2017, the second event of the series of activities designed to enhance fundamental teaching skills of NEFU faculty, Top Teacher Workshop, was held by NEFU Center for Faculty Development and Teaching Improvement. Wu Fuxi, an associate professor of Zhejiang Shuren University and distinguished teacher of the National Center for Faculty Network Training of the Ministry of Education was invited to deliver a speech on the Application and Innovation of Microlectures, PBL and Other Teaching Methods in Higher Institutions. This event was hosted by Jiang Zhongzhu, deputy director of Teaching Affairs Office.
Associate Professor Wu Fuxi expounded on the definition of microlectures, the strategies about how to design and create mircrolectures, the application of group teaching, the practice and application of PBL in the higher institutions in Taiwan as well as in his own courses and the innovation of microlectures and classroom teaching. He stressed that: First, microlectures should choose topics that are related to the public and focus on five features including elaborate teaching design, distinctive teaching contents, abundant multimedia technology, superb shooting techniques and impressive opening; Second, student grouping should be ingenious and bonus points should be awarded in accordance with the detailed rules; Third, in the innovation of classroom teaching, the lead-in of the lecture should start off a hot issue, an example or a question so as to motivate students’ interest in knowledge and the enthusiasm for major, which is a critical step of course learning; Fourth, in the application of the teaching methods, such as grouping and PBL, teachers should play three roles of “Planner”, “Host” and “Judge”, making students the real master in class.
The workshop was divided into morning part and afternoon part and lasted 5 hours. Characterized by substantial contents and bountiful citations, Associate Professor Wu Fuxi illustrated innovative methods and strategies of classroom teaching by exemplifying straightforward cases from life. During the workshop, the attendees had enthusiastic interactions and in-depth discussions with Associate Professor Wu Fuxi. The teachers present expressed that the contents of the workshop were really impressive and ingenious and provided them with a brand-new understanding of the design of teaching methods of classroom teaching in the new situation and the teaching methods introduced by him had practical applicability and operability coupled with crucial guiding significance and reference value for teaching design.
