Abstract of the Report
In recent ten years, worldwide research on biomass conversion has received considerable attention. The main driving forces of the research are as follows: the production of fuels and chemicals from biomass as raw materials can reduce greenhouse gas emission; biomass is regarded as the most hopeful industrial raw material which can replace the existing consuming petrochemical resources; unreasonable use of the existing waste biomass will have negative influence on the atmosphere and the ecological environment, but its reasonable utilization can turn waste into treasure. The report, based on the research work of Professor Ben Haoxi for many years, focuses on the thermal conversion process and methods of biomass, establishment of analysis method on biomass and its products, design and upgrading on biomass products, and mechanism of biomass conversion process. The report also briefly discusses the possible utilization of waste biomass.
About the Reporter
Ben Haoxi, professor in the School of Energy and Environment, Southeast University, was selected for the thirteenth batch of national Thousand Young Talents Program. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Nanjing University, and doctoral degree from the Renewable Biomass Research Center of Georgia Institute of Technology. He continued to engage in research works related to the conversion of biomass in the National Renewable Energy Laboratory of the United States. He has published 28 SCI indexed papers related to biomass, including 21 papers as the first author and 3 papers as the correspondent author, and 15 international conference papers. He is the first author of two chapters in his academic monographs. He also compiled the American National Laboratory Standard Test Method, had two American patents and one Chinese patent. During his stay in the US, he was involved in a number of research projects related to biomass conversion from the United States Department of Energy, which were worth about 25 million dollars. He serves as the reviewer of 18 SCI journals in the field of biomass and was named the best reviewer twice by the Bioresource Technology (JCR 1 area) journals.
