Recently, the School of Civil Engineering successfully won the right to host the5th Youth Academic Forum on Geotechnical Mechanics and Engineering in Cold Regions in 2022, which will not only promote the development ofNEFU’s disciplines of engineering and the environment, geotechnical, and underground engineering in cold regions, but also enhance the overall popularity of our school in the field of frozen soil engineering research in cold regions.

This forum was initiated by the Youth Working Committee of the Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics& Engineering in 2018, and has been previously hosted by Xi’an University of Science and Technology, Chongqing Jiaotong University, Lanzhou Jiaotong University and China University of Mining and Technology (Xuzhou). Young scholars from the State Key Laboratory of Frozen Soil Engineering of Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources,the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tongji University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, the Chinese Academy ofSciences, Central South University, Hohai University and other famous domestic research institutes and universities actively participated in the academic exchange of the forum which was rated as anexcellent forum by the Youth Working Committee of CSRME.

At the 4th National Young Scholars’ Forum on Geotechnical Mechanics and Engineering in Cold Regions and Special Soil Mechanics and Engineering Practice, Professor Jin Huijun and Professor Zhang Ze of our school presided over the special invitation report and the sub-meeting report respectively, and Prof. Zhang Ze made a sub-meeting report onMolecular Dynamics Theory of Frozen Soil Strength and Long-term Strength Prediction by Time Analogue Method.

Li Hongfeng,the Secretary of the Party Committee oftheSchool of Civil Engineering,successfullyapplied for the Fifth Academic Forum on behalf ofour school. He said that with the rapid advancement of theBelt andRoadInitiative infrastructure construction, the construction of projects in cold regions will also face enormous challenges; thus,the Young Academic Forum on Geotechnical Mechanics and Engineering in Cold Regions will provide a platform for scientific and technological exchanges for young Chinese scholarsworkingin cold regions.NEFU sends a sincere invitation toprofessionals and welcomes experts and scholars to come hereto share research results andprospects forfuture development.
