The 2021 China Landscape Architecture Education Conference (CLAEC) was held in Beijing from May 29 to May 30.Against the backdrop of coordinating regular epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development, the conference was held both online and offline and received a warm response among landscape architecture educators nationwide, with more than 400 representatives from over 200 universities across the country participating in the conference.In the Design Competition for college students and the Design Exhibition for excellent undergraduates, our students from the School of Landscape Architecture stood out from other excellent students in 184 universities, and won 1 first prize, 3 third prizes, 1 excellent prize and 2 excellent undergraduate design prizes.

Many big names in the field of landscape architecture attended this conference including the following: Professor Wang Xiangrong, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Education Committee of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture (CHSLA) and Dean of the School of Landscape Architecture of Beijing Forestry University; Chen Zhong, President of the CHSLA; Professor Li Xiong, Chairman of the Education Committee of the CHSLA and Vice President of Beijing Forestry University; Salma Samaha, Chairman of the Education and Academic Affairs Committee of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA); Jia Jianzhong, Secretary General and professor level senior engineer of the CHSLA; Meng Zhaozhen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor of Beijing Forestry University; Lu Luanmei, Representative of National People's Congress, President and Professor of the School of Biological Science and Biotechnology of Minnan Normal University; Professor Lan Siren, Vice Chairman of the Education Committee of the CHSLA, and President of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University; and Professor Yang Rui, Vice President of the CHSLA, Vice Chairman of the Education Committee, Director of the Department of Landscape Architecture of the School of Architecture in Tsinghua University.

The theme of the conference is "Carry on the Essence and Pursue Innovation, Build on Past Achievements and Strive for New Progress". It is sponsored by the Education Committee of the CHSLA,the Landscape Architecture Discipline Appraisal Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the Landscape Architecture Teaching Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education and the National Master of Landscape Architecture Education Steering Committee. The conference consists of one theme forum that marks the 70thyear of professional education in the Landscape Architecture of the Discipline Appraisal Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and three sub-forums concerning landscape architecture: the forum of education theory and practice, the forum of discipline frontier and hot spots, and the forum of teaching collaboration and innovation.

On the afternoon of May 30, at the theme forum of the CLAEC, Mr. Ou Baigang, a staff of the Degree Management Office of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, analyzed the situation of landscape architecture education in the past 40 years from the view of the development and reform of degrees and postgraduate education, emphasized the change of focus of discipline construction and development in different historical stages, and put forward the general development direction and guiding ideology of landscape architecture education in the future. Professor Xu Dawei, the academic leader of landscape architecture planning and design in the School of Landscape Architecture of NEFU, made a report entitled "Consideration on the Formulation of Personnel Training Scheme of Landscape Architecture Based on High Quality Development", which consisted of three aspects: the key processes of high-quality personnel training scheme and the support and guarantee for the implementation of such a scheme. He emphasized that the key to the training program is to consider it from the top to the bottom, and schools should highlight their own characteristics. The forum was warmly received and highly praised by the representatives of universities.
