On the morning of October 30th, the College of Material Science and Engineering held the opening ceremony of the third Academic Week in the International Conference Hall of the Wildlife Resource Teaching Building. Li Jian, Chinese Academy of Engineering academician and leader of Forestry Engineering, Lin Haibo, Deputy Secretary of the NEFU CPC Committee, andother heads attended the opening ceremony. It was hosted by Yu Min, Vice Dean of the College of Material Science and Engineering.
Deputy Secretary Lin Haibo made a speech in the ceremony. He gave full affirmation to the holding of the Academic Week. He emphasized that the foundation of a university was its colleges and that the level of the colleges represented that of university. Therefore the construction of Double First Class (first class university and first class discipline) is not only the aim of NEFU, but also the responsibility of every College, teacher and student. He said that more academic activities should be held to create a profound academic atmosphere and provide a platform for exchanges between famous experts and scholars.
The Academic Week will last for two weeks, during which patent lectures, expert reports, and trainings on large scale facility operations will be held.
The first report,Iridescent Phenomenon of Cellulose Nanocrystals in Liquid Phase, will be made by Academician Li Jian during the Academic Week. He will explicitly introduce the direction of international wood research in the coming few years, elaborate the latest research from macroscopic, microscopic, and mesoscopic aspects. He also calls on scientific and technological researchers to combine innovation, greenness and development together, under the Five Development Ideologies proposed by General President Xi Jinping, and try to become the leading force in the development of domestic and foreign industries
Liu Shouxin, dean of the College of Material Science and Engineering, made a speech entitledForestry Engineering Disciplinary Construction and Innovative Talents Cultivation under the Background of Double First Class. In combination with the development of domestic and foreign forestry engineering and assessment data for more than a decade, he summarized the development process of forestry engineering and the pressures and challenges it would face in the future, and analyzed NEFU’s research advantages and disadvantages in the field of forestry engineering in comparison with its counterparts in the world. He also proposed in his speech that stability, cultivation and introduction of talents bore the brunt of developing Forestry Engineering.
Xiao Zefang and Huang Zhanhua made speeches titledLaboratory Safety Regulationsand Safety Education and Environmental Protection in Chemical Laboratory respectively. They introduced laboratory safety precautions, standardized management and safe operation of chemicals, drugs, etc. They also pointed out that safety is of great importance, and everyone should keep safety awareness in the mind, avoiding negligence.
Xie Yanjun made a report entitledJournal Paper Writing – the Necessary Way to Graduate, elaborating on the attention that should be paid in the process of paper writing, including selection of journals, specification for reference etc. Wan Caichao, representative of excellent PHD students, is a three-time winner of the National Scholarship along with various other awards. He talked about his research direction and paper writing experience.
