On December 9, 93 NEFU students with economic difficulties from Xinjiang, Tibet, Guizhou, Jiangxi and other provinces and autonomous regions received money for “love tickets”, with which they can buy the round-trip train tickets home when the winter comes.

In order to help students with economic difficulties return home, NEFU launched the “love ticket” project. College counselors collected the information and the school allocated special funds to make sure that every student could afford to go home. Student’s tickets were prepaid according to the reported ticket price, and they can submit an expense account with the actual train ticket cost at the start of next semester.

2016 Uighur student Abdureni Slam from the college of Economic Management received 688 yuan. Abdureni said it takes him more than 60 hours to get his hometown of Toumchouq, Xinjiang by train. The death of his father meant that his mother had to raise him and his younger brother single-handedly, resulting in a very difficult life. He is studying in the university on student loans. He said, “On festive occasions more than ever one thinks of one’s dear ones far away, and the love ticket allows me to see my family, for which I am forever grateful.”

Following the “cultivating project”, there are “four musts” in the student work namely speed in crisis management, breadth in the understanding of the student, depth in the work study, and warmth in the treatment of students and work. This is the fourth year in our school to have the “love ticket” project, which has given out more than 130,000 yuan and helped 340 students with economic difficulties in the past four years.
