Recently, Liu Jialin, a student from NEFU, and William J Munger, Liu’s supervisor at Harvard University were interviewed by “Nature” magazine. A photo from the interview was selected as the cover photo of “Nature Index 2016 Collaborations.” The related information and video were also published in the magazine.
“Nature Index,” a supplement to “Nature,” was first published in November 2014. It tracks the publication of papers of more than 8000 institutions in more than 68 high-quality natural science journals from 150 countries, with purposes to assess the level of scientific research and to suggest trends in high-quality scientific research outputs.
The supplement “Nature Index 2016 Rising Stars,” published earlier this year, introduces some of the fastest-growing countries and research institutions for high-quality research papers, and shows how some non-top universities or institutions with short developing time, which are less famous and lack vast resources, enhance their research output. “Nature Index” has become an important indicator for measuring scientific research strength of national and scientific research institutions.
“Nature Index 2016 Collaborations” is the latest supplement to “Nature”, which shows that international collaboration is becoming increasingly important in high-level scientific research. China and the United States have constituted the most important bilateral relationship in global scientific research collaboration. At the same time, the supplement also reveals a significant spatial clustering phenomenon among research collaborators.
Liu Jialinhas earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from NEFU, and now he is adoctoral candidate of NEFU. His Ph.D. project mainly discusses the carbon-water coupling of northern forests and their response to climate change, relying on the research platform of Mohe Forest Ecological Station. In 2016, Liuwent abroad to Harvard University for further study as a part of the “National Postgraduate Program for Building a High-Level University” sponsored by the China Scholarship Council.
