On January 7th, the National English Program Construction High-end Forum was held in NEFU, and 158 representatives from 39 universities from throughout the country took part in the forum. The forum was hosted by theCollegeofForeignLanguages.

At 8:30 on January 7th, the opening ceremony was held in the international conference hall. Wang Dan, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages presided over the opening ceremony.Li Bin, Vice President of NEFU, Xu Wenpei, the chairman of Heilongjiang Foreign Language Association and Executive Director of the America Literature Research Association, Jiang Yufeng, President of Heilongjiang College Foreign Language Association, and Zhai Xuefeng, Director of Faculty of Development Center attended the opening ceremony.At the ceremony, Li Bin and Xu Wenpei both made speeches. Vice President Li Bin introduced thebasic situation including the history, the construction of the subject and the scientific research of NEFU. He spoke highly of the achievements of the College of Foreign Languages inteachingandscientificresearch,and extended a warm welcome to the guests present. Xu Wenpei briefly introduced the current situation of the development of English programs in colleges and universities nationwide, and expressed his expectations and wishes for the forum in his speech.

Keynote speeches of the forum were delivered by Ma Qiuwu, the Professor from the School of Foreign Languages of Tongji University, Chang Junyue, professor of Dalian University of Foreign Languages, and Wan Dan, the Dean of the College of Foreign Languages of NEFU.Ma Qiuwu focused on teaching reform of undergraduate English, starting from the content and nature of English majors. He holds that the English program should be divided into discipline-oriented subjects and skill-oriented subjects, and that the development of undergraduate English program with distinctive characteristics should be based on the university’s advantages, so as to stand out from other universities.Chang Junyue introduced content and language fusion curriculum reform for English majors, showing the influence of systematic curriculum reform and teaching management on students, teachers, and the development of the program. He also summarized the countermeasures to the reform of the curriculum system, and put forward some suggestions on the construction of English programs in Chinese universities and colleges. Wang Dan focused on the development trends of the network teaching mode, and pointed out that the curriculum construction would need more remote interactive platforms for online courses, and that curriculum in the future should be characterized by interaction, networking, virtualization and intelligence, finally to realize the transformation of teaching and learning mode, so that to build a harmonious ecological education system.

On the afternoon of the 7th, group discussion was carried out, which included three parallel sessions. Outstanding teachers from different colleges submitted papers, and made in-depth exchanges of ideas about cultivating professionals and improving the ability of learning foreign languages, professional teaching and the reform of teaching etc. At 4 pm, the closing ceremony was held in the multifunctional hall of Wenbo Building.

This forum is a large meeting held by the College of Foreign Languages, which is based on the “13th Five-Year Plan” with the purpose of developing opportunities, developing the College of Foreign Languages, and promoting the communication of English program construction of universities nationwide. It also explored a new effective way of English program construction and teaching in the current situation, while at the same time, strengthened the integration of English program development with current social development. It is of great significance for the development of the College of Foreign Languages and program construction in the new period.
