On January 4, 2017，the 9th International College Student Snow Sculpture Competition opened in Harbin Engineering University, where ninety-five colleges and universities from Belgium, Germany, France, China, Russia and other twelve countries and regions, were involved in the contest with a total number of 155 works. In the end, fifty-seven works from nineteen foreign colleges and universities including University of Le Mans, University of Southampton, Tokyo Institute of Technology as well as thirty-eight Chinese colleges and universities including Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Wuhan University, Northeast Forestry University, were involved in the final competition. The competition held the idea of “building up ice snow culture and shaping campus landscape with elaboration” and aimed to enhance the students’ sense of innovation and practical ability and hard-working team spirit, as well as to tap into college students’ innovative potential and wisdom. At the same time, it contributed to strengthening the learning and exchange of snow art sculpture among college students and enriching the development of our ice and snow culture.

In this contest, the snow sculptureOne Can Do Great Things with Calm heart and Soulwas selected and recommended by Institute of Materials Snow Art Center of our university and was awarded third prize.The ancients said: “If one’s heart is unstable, he will have a bad temper. If one has a bad temper, his heart will be of no concentration.” The creation of this work was inspired by the Chinese willing ox, which represents people’s spirit of modesty, prudence, honesty and diligence and shows people commendable spirit of the willing ox. Although Harbin is severely cold in January, the competitors who were fulfilled the spirit of a willing ox, upheld the motto of our university “Learn from Nature, Strive for Harmony” and made the snow ox out of a snow cube to spread our humble and lofty motto worldwide.
