On the evening of June 19, the famous hostess gave a speech as a part of the seventieth NEFU Cultural Forum, along with her new bookI, One of the Last Generation of Worker-peasant-soldier Students. The theme of the speech was "Youth · Dialogue" and more than 1,500 NEFU teachers and students heard her reminisce about her golden youth and looked for brighter life.
Before the speech, Chen Wenhui, deputy secretary of the Party Committee, had a cordial conversation with Jing Yidan and welcomed her to NEFU. Jing Yidan also mentioned her indissoluble bond with NEFU.
At the beginning of the speech, Ms. Jing, dressed in a shiny blue dress, went on the stage with her old friend Wang Fusheng. After three students from the campus broadcast station affectionately read an extract from her bookI, One of the Last Generation of Worker-peasant-soldier Students, Ms. Jing said with emotion: “The hero ignores the source! NEFU, as a comprehensive college, is full of very talented people!” Then, Mr. Wang Fusheng also admitted that he had profound relationship with the NEFU radio station, and he knew a lot of outstanding graduates in the broadcasting and hosting industry.
They two recalled their educated youth years --- no lights at night, Ms. Jing made an extremely simple lamp with kerosene and old shoelaces to read the newspaper, ignoring the fact that her nose was black with smoke; no book to read, she borrowed from her old classmates and transcribed theThree Hundred Poems of Tang Dynastyword by word. Recalling his youth, Mr. Wang sang a very famous song from that period, “On the Wusuli River.” The two teachers were feeling that in the era of extreme material deprivation, everyone was on the brink of collapse and felt the fear of the book shortage, but the educated youth had not stopped their pursuit for knowledge and characters because of lack of materials. Hearing this, the audience expressed their sincere respect to the two teachers. Subsequently, Ms. Jing introduced the history of the worker-peasant-students and her experience of working as a broadcasting hostess. “We were a group in a special period of time. In the turmoil of the Cultural Revolution, the turning point of the country became a turning point in my personal life as well. Workers, peasants, soldiers and the new students in 1977 who attended the restoration of the college entrance examination had a gap of an era.” Looking back at the college entrance examination, she was filled with emotion. After three failures of being recommended to go to university, she was admitted to the Beijing Broadcasting Institute, and she began on the road of hosting and broadcasting. The two teachers also admitted that some of their classmates chose broadcasting and hosting unwillingly just because they lived in a special period of time when they did not have a fair college entrance examination system like today, by which we can choose our own life. As a member of the last generation of worker-peasant-soldiers, Ms. Jing and her classmates witnessed the bitterness of the period of youth, she said: “Telling this experience is the obligation as a witness, media worker, and intellectual. In the process of compiling the book, they tried to combine the new media with the old one, and strived to write the book vividly.
Wang Fusheng also shared his own interesting experience at the Zhejiang University of Media and Communication. He said he was a very strict teacher who sometimes punished students physically, but was still named the most popular teachers for three consecutive years. It was the good communication with the younger generation that helped him connect with his former classmates through the internet to successfully write this book. “This book records a history that can not be forgotten, and it belongs to the life files of our generation.” Wang said.
