From August 24 to August 27, the annual academic conference of the 8th National Congress of the Economic Forest Branch of the Chinese Forestry Society was held at NEFU. More than 300 experts from more than 90 units in China held a discussion around scientific and technical issues of economic forest cultivation theory and practice, economic forestry plant resource cultivation and products.
The opening ceremony was held on the morning of August 26. Present at the ceremony were famous experts in the field of forestry from all over China, including Prof. Cao Fuxiang, Vice President of Hunan Agricultural University and Chairman of Economic Forestry Society of Chinese Society of Forestry, Deputy Director Du Jishan of the Science and Technology Department of the State Forestry Administration, Prof. Li Bin, President of Northeast Forestry University, Prof. Yang Guoting, Director of the Forestry Department of Heilongjiang Province, Professor Liu Huimin, Deputy Director of the Education Committee of the People's Congress of Yunnan Province and former President of Southwest Forestry University, Director Zhou Lijun of the Afforestation Department of the State Forestry Administration, Professor Zhou Zhongjun, Vice President of the Central South Forestry University, Researcher Zhang Jianguo, Director of the Forestry Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, and Zeng Xiang, Director of the Academic Department of the Chinese Forestry Society. Professor Tan Xiaofeng, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Economic Forest Society of the China Forestry Society, presided over the opening ceremony.
President Li Bin first delivered a welcome speech. In the speech, Li Bin said that since the northeast forestry region had completely stopped commercial logging, the economic forest had become an important basis for the development of forest areas. Under such circumstances, the academic annual meeting held in NEFU had a very special significance. Li Bin hoped that the experts and scholars from across the country would fully study for China's economic development and make due contributions to the cause.
Director Yang Guoting of Heilongjiang Provincial Forestry Department opened the meeting. Yang Guoting introduced the forestry situation of Heilongjiang Province and pointed out that the forestry industry had been in the top ten key industries of Heilongjiang province. In addition, the forestry industry had gradually formed a new industrial pattern in which forest farming, forest green food production, pharmaceutical industry, ecological tourism and other industries developed simultaneously. He believed that the scientific and technological innovation of a national economic forest would certainly provide a reference for the development of a local forestry industry.
Wang Zhongwei congratulated the convening of the conference on behalf of Central South University of Forestry and Technology, and Zeng Xiangwei, on behalf of Chen Xingliang, the Vice Chairman and Secretary General of Chinese Society of Forestry, addressed the meeting.
At the end of the ceremony, Chairman Cao Fuxiang made a report. In the report he reviewed the main achievements and problems of the seventh session of the Council and made important recommendations for the next Council. He hoped that the eighth session of the Council would promote the cause of economic forest to a new stage of development.
Invited by the conference, Deputy Director Du Ji Shan made a special report entitledSituation and Task of Scientific and Technological Innovation in Economic Forest Industry. In the report, he introduced the top-level design ideas and measures of national scientific and technological innovation of economic forest from four aspects of the new situation of forestry development in China, the “13th Five-Year Plan” of forestry science and technology innovation, the new progress of national science and technology reform, and the reflection of economic forest science and technology innovation, which received all the great concern of the participants. Director Zhou Lijun, made a special reportThe Situation and Policy of Economic Forest Industry of China,in which he introduced state policy on promoting the development of economic forest industry from a management perspective.
A total of 27 experts and 17 graduate students in the General Assembly made in-depth discussions, showed the latest research achievements, and explored development, effectiveness and prospects of economic forest and forestry economy through special reports, theme reports, forestry economy industry forums and postgraduate forums. The seminar has received 123 papers, whose content covered all aspects of science and technology innovation of the economic forest. Altogether 68 outstanding papers including 11 first prizes, 26 second prizes, 31 third prizes and 12 excellent academic reports of graduate students received awards.
The representative of the conference also made several on-the-spot investigations, such as Berry Cultivation Center and Greenfield Berries Co., Ltd. in Shangzhi, Maoershan Experimental Forest Farm of NEFU, field test facility of Laoyeling Ecological Station. After the visit, the Geographical indication product “Shangzhi raspberry” and anthocyanin extraction industry, the scale of the Maoershan Experimental Forest Farm and cultivation achievements, a variety of scientific research facilities all left a deep impression on the visitors.
An election of the eighth council of the Economic Forest Branch of Chinese Forestry Society was also held during the meeting. The council elected Professor Tan Xiaofeng as Chairman and Professor Li Jianan as Vice Chairman and Secretary General. Additionally, 12 vice chairmen, 6 deputy secretary general, 89 executive directors, and 175 directors were also elected during the meeting. After the election, the first plenary session of the 8th Council was convened.
The meeting was not only attended by representatives from Tibet and other remote provinces, but representatives from various forestry colleges and universities, which showed that everyone has attached great importance to economic forest work. Experts said that economic forest products were no longer a “forest by-product” and the annual meeting would make due contributions to China's economic forest cause.
The conference was organized by the Economic Forest Branch of the China Forestry Society, undertaken by Northeast Forestry University and Heilongjiang Provincial Forestry Society, and co-organized by the Korean pine Engineering Technology Research Center, the Northeast native trees engineering technology research center and the Maoershan Experimental Forest Farm.
