At the invitation of the Shanxi provincial forestry bureau, Ma Jianzhang, an academician from NEFU, established the “academician workstation for protecting the habit of north China leopard” in the National Nature Reserve named Tieqiao mountain. The workstation was awarded n the morning of September 28, in the Shanxi Province 2017 Association annual meeting by Wang Yixin, Vice Governor of Shanxi Province. Professor Ma Jianzhang of the School of Wildlife Resources and Professor Jiang Guangshun, Deputy Director of the Fisheries Research Center of the State Forestry Administration, attended the ceremony.
It is known that the Tieqiaoshan National Nature Reserve has the highest density of leopards in the North China leopard population protection area. After the establishment of the Shanxi North China leopard habitat protection academician workstation, our team of experts will assist the protected area in arranging the field monitoring network to understand the status of the species and habitat of the North China leopard, through scientific research not only to protect endangered species and the ecological environment, but also promote the development of the local people's livelihood, and the harmony between people and animals, so as to drive the construction of Shanxi North China leopard protection into a national park and to play a role in the national strategy.
On the afternoon of September 28th, Prof. Ma Jianzhang and Professor Jiang Guangshun were invited to make academic reports to the cadres of the Shanxi Forestry Department. Professor Ma Jianzhang's report was entitled "Chinese feline animal protection and research", and Professor Jiang Guangshun's report entitled "Shanxi North China leopard protection and management of the opportunities and challenges." They discussed the status and advantages of the protection of feline resources, combined with the actual situation of local economic development, and analyzed this subspecies with regards to both opportunity and the need for protection work.
