“It is the first time for me to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival. China's traditional culture so fascinated me that I will introduce Chinese culture to all my friends when I go back home. I believe this will make more and more people come and study in China.” said Rumen, a student from Pakistan in the Mid-Autumn Festival Salon held by NEFU on October 4. There were more than 150 students from 45 countries celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival together on that day.

Mid-Autumn Festival is a Chinese traditional festival. The moon symbolizes the family reunion. In order to introduce the traditional Chinese culture to foreign students as well as alleviate their homesickness, the College of International Exchange hosted this cultural salon.

At the salon, foreign students not only enjoyed moon cakes and other festive snacks, but also watched a brilliant Chinese traditional culture show performed by students from the Qi Lin Research Association, Wushu Association, Tai Chi Association, Painting and Calligraphy Association, Chess Association, and Comic dialogue Association. Their performance of Chinese martial arts, Tai Chi fan and Chinese traditional dance with Han costume, the playing of zither and Ruan, as well as the show of Chinese calligraphy and Chinese painting were highly praised by the foreign students and received warm applause.

“Chinese culture is broad and profound. I hope that through our exhibition of these arts and culture, foreign students could also appreciate and experience the Chinese culture.” said Dean Qiao Fenghe of International Exchange College. It is well known that NEFU actively serves the “One Belt and One Road” strategy. This year NEFU has received 163 foreign students from 37 “One Belt and One Road” countries. “This salon is hoped to make foreign students fully understand the Chinese culture," said Luo Ying, vice director of the International Exchange College. “Our university will not only enable them to acquire professional knowledge, but also have a better understanding of China.”

The Mid-Autumn Salon took “We are the world” as the theme, and “Build a silk bridge and share the Mid-Autumn Festival" as the goal, so that foreign students could feel the warmth and care of our university, experience and understand traditional Chinese culture, and have an opportunity to communicate with Chinese students. “This is the first time I have eaten a moon cake. It not only is very delicious, but has a very good meaning as well. I was told its round shape symbolizes the reunion. This lively activity makes me fall in love with Chinese culture, and I will introduce Chinese culture to all of my friends back home,” said an Indonesian student named Farris.
