On the morning of April 9th, John Hoskin, the Dean of Faculty of Science of the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and his team came to NEFU to negotiate on issues such as cooperation in student training. A symposium was then held in the conference room on the 7th floor of the Administration Building. Vice President Li Shunlong and directors of the International Cooperation Department, Academic Affairs Office, School of Science, School of Information and Computer Engineering, School of Life Science, and College of Forestry attended the symposium.

Vice President Li Shunlong gave a welcome speech and briefly introduced the situation of our university. He said that Auckland University is the largest university in New Zealand and one of the top 100 universities in the world. NEFU cherishes this opportunity to cooperate with Auckland University and plans to apply for a non-independent education institution. He hoped that this visit could promote substantial progress in the cooperation between the two universities, expand cooperation areas outside building a cooperatively-run school, such as establishment of sino-foreign joint scientific research institutions, cooperation of majors in business and engineering, and short-term exchanges between teachers and students, as well as teacher training, and achieve a win-win situation in cultural exchange and talent training between the two universities.

Dean John Hoskin introduced the situation of the University of Auckland and focused on the faculty and discipline distribution of the Faculty of Science. He said that it was such an honor to cooperate with high-quality Chinese universities as NEFU, and he was very pleased to have a cooperation point that was compatible with the preponderant disciplines of the two sides. He earnestly hoped that the two universities could obtain the recognition and support of both governments and establish joint research institutions. He also expressed his willingness to promote the cooperation and hoped this visit would make substantial progress. NEFU will apply for a non-independent education institution on the basis of the agreement signed with the University of Auckland.

At the symposium, the two sides exchanged ideas on specific content such as personnel training programs and curriculum system construction for the cooperatively-run school, and they also discussed the details of the establishment of the Forestry Ecology Research Center.

Accompanying the Dean John Hoskin was Li Xingqing, the president of the Australian Education Management Group. He put forward opinions and suggestions on the establishment of joint scientific research institutions at the symposium.
