The Jiang Liquan Research Group of the State Key Laboratory of Tree Genetics and Breeding in NEFU, in collaboration with the Li Wei Research Group, published two research papers in the 31st issue of Plant Cell. The papers analyze thehierarchical transcription factor and chromatin binding network for wood formation in populus trichocarpa, and reveal the epigenetic of drought tolerance of poplar trichocarpa and the mechanism of transcriptional coordination. Details are as follows:

In March 2019, the 31st issue of Plant Cell published a research paper entitled "Hierarchical Transcription Factor and Chromatin Binding Network for Wood Formation in Populus trichocarpa". The study provides a new and accurate approach to genetic improvement for improving forest productivity, and the paper was selected as the cover article for the month.

In the same issue, Plant Cell published a research paper entitled "The AREB1 Transcription Factor Influences Histone Acetylation to Regulate Drought Responses and Tolerance in Populus trichocarpa". This study reveals that transcription factor and histone modifications synergisticallyregulate the new mechanism of populus trichocarpa adaptation to drought stress, and open up new ideas for the use of molecular techniques for forest resilience breeding. This research was reviewed by a special paper written by Plant Cell, which provides a new insight into the role of epigenetic regulation in plant response to drought stress.(Castroverde 2019, Plant Cell, 31: 559-560)
