In order to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech on the 100th anniversary of the May 4th Movement, NEFU Model UN Association held the third NEFU Model UN Conference with the theme of New Era, New Youth, New Voice”. On the morning of May 17th, the opening ceremony was held in the International Conference Hall, 331, the Wildlife Resources Building.

Xie Bohua, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Vanuatu and executive member of U.N. Association of China was present at the conference and delivered a speech. The directors of the CPC Party Committee Publicity Department, Office of Academic Affairs, School of International Education and Exchanges and the Communist Youth League Committee as well as the leaders and counselors of College of Humanity and Law and teachers of Political Science and Administration Major were present at the opening ceremony. About 200 representatives from 17 institutions of higher learning (including 2 foreign universities) attended this conference.

At 9.30 a.m., Ambassador Xie Bohua and other leaders walked into the International Conference Hall. The organizing committee of the Conference showed a video, reviewing the development of NEFU Model UN in the past three years and receiving the best wishes from Model UN Associations of other universities in China.

After warm applause, Ambassador Xie Bohua gave a speech. As a diplomat, he conveyed sincere hope to the representatives, pointing out that Model UN is not just a platform for study, but a stage for practice. He hoped that all the delegates could acquire knowledge about UN and relevant international organizations from this conference, expand their global vision and enhance practical capabilities. He stressed that 2019 was the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and it was essential for the new generation of youth to strive for the glory of the next 70 years. The speech struck a deep chord in the delegates.

Li Jingyi, Dean of College of Humanity and Law expressed gratitude to the leaders, teachers and students in his speech for their contributions to NEFU Model UN over the past three years since its founding. He conveyed his opinion from the three perspectives of the theme of this conference: New Era, New Youth, New Voice, noting that “new” means youth, vitality and vigor. He hoped that all the representatives could shoulder the great responsibility of the era and make the new voice belonging to the Chinese young adults as the new youth in the new era.

Xiao Changlin, Secretary General of NEFU Model UN Association expressed that after 6 months of preparation, the third NEFU Model UN Conference endeavored to provide valuable participation experience for every delegate with high academic level and hoped that every representative could enjoy the subsequent sessions and gain a rewarding experience in NEFU.

Finally, Yu Jinghui, deputy dean of College of Humanity and Law granted the hammer to Secretary General Xiao Changlin and the Secretary General announced that the third NEFU Model UN Conference opened.

This conference will conduct discussions over issues including “Ecological Civilization and Youth Conference”, “Terrorism in the New Situation”, “Illicit Arms Trafficking in Central and Eastern Europe”, “Paris Peace Conference” and “Yemen Issue” and set up the major news center to report.

General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech on the 100th anniversary of the May 4th Movement noted that youth is the most active and vigorous force among the social forces, the hope of a country relies on youth and the future of a nation relies on youth. Today, the Chinese youth in the new era faces the best development period of the Chinese nation, both confronting the rare opportunities to make grand achievements and the mission of the era as “Heaven is about to grant a man great responsibility”. The Chinese youth in the new era should continue to carry forward the May 4th spirit, take it as mission to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and live up to the expectations of the party, the people, the great trust placed in us by the nation and the great era. We are convinced that through the participation in this conference, there will be young people in growing numbers who recognize the noble mission granted by our great era and make arduous efforts to realize the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
