The 52nd NEFU Track-and-Field and Sunshine Sports Meeting were held on May 30th and 31st at the track-and-field ground. More than 5,000 NEFU domestic students as well as international students from 46 different countries competed in the event.
At 8 o’clock on May 31st, the opening ceremony began. The leaders of the university, the academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the retired leader representatives, the deans of the different departments, offices and units and student representatives attended the opening ceremony and sat at the rostrum to review the athlete parades. The opening ceremony was hosted by Vice President Luo Wenhu. Nearly 10,000 netizens watched the opening ceremony through a live webcast.
During the opening ceremony, the solemn and majestic guards of national flag, the heroic banner team, the youthful bouquet team and the delegations of athletes wore neat costumes, shouted loud slogans and walked at a steady pace passing by the rostrum, receiving the review of the leaders, teachers and students.
President Li Bin gave an opening speech. He said that sports are important symbol of social development and human progress, and an important manifestation of comprehensive national strength and social civilization. Extensively carrying out national fitness activities, accelerating the construction of a strong country of sports, and promoting the deep integration of fitness and health for all the people are important strategic measures of the Party and the nation. President Li stressed that NEFU people have always had a good tradition of loving sports, advocating sports, and pursuing health. Sports work has also achieved excellent results, and it has injected a powerful gene for NEFU people to pursue excellence and make breakthroughs.
President Li emphasized that sports not only strengthen the body, but also temper the will. Sportsmanship can inspire morals, and add infinite power to the composing of NEFU’s endeavor. He appealed to all of NEFU to carry forward the hardworking spirit, to shoulder the heavy responsibility and to work together on the runway of building NEFU into a high-level university in China along the lifeline, happiness line and revitalization line of NEFU!
