On October 20, the 2020 Joint Management Committee (JMC) meeting between NEFU and the University of Auckland was held in Room 609 of Aulin College. The participants were as follows: Professor Song Wenlong, member of the Standing Committee of NEFU Party Committee and Vice President of NEFU,Professor Jenny Dixon, Vice President of the University of Auckland, Professor John Hosking, Dean of the Faculty of Science of the University of Auckland, Brett Berquist, Minister of the International Department of the University of Auckland, ProfessorSebastian Link, Associate Dean (International) of the Faulty of Science of the University of Auckland, Associate Professor Duncan McGillivray, Associate Dean (Academic) of the Faculty of Science of the University of Auckland, Professor Liu Zhiming,Dean of Aulin College, Yu Yang, Secretary of the Party Branch directly under Aulin College, Zhao Lihua, Associate Dean of Aulin College, and other relevant personnel of the Academic Affairs Office and the International Cooperation Office of both sides.
The JMC meeting was conducted via online video due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Professor Jenny Dixon, Vice President of the University of Auckland, first delivered a speech. On behalf of the University of Auckland, she expressed her most sincere thanks to the school leaders and colleagues of NEFU who have given great support to the development of Aulin College, and especially to the teaching teams of both sides. In addition,she approved of the fact that the UoA-NEFU CLC has been a great help to the Chinese students who are admitted to the university of Auckland, for both their study and life.Moreover, she said that at the China Business Summit 2020 which was held in Auckland in July, Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand, was very proud of the achievements made by both sides in terms of the cooperative education programs between the University of Auckland and Chinese universities, and the Prime Minister looked forward to further cooperation with NEFU.
Vice President Song Wenlong conveyed that President Li Bin payed high levels of attention to the meeting and expressed his gratitude to the participants for their preparation of the meeting.Song praised the achievements of Aulin College since its establishment, spoke highly of its scientific management, teaching reform, learning environment construction and active involvement of both teachers and students, and looked forward to in-depth cooperation between NEFU and Aulin College in academic exchanges and the Cooperative Postgraduate Projects of Aulin College. He believed that, in the future, only when the two universities constantly keep close contact and continuously enhance mutual cooperation, can the Sino-foreign cooperative education in NEFU and the development of Aulin College usher in a new phase.
Brett Berquist, Minister of the International Department of the University of Auckland, and Liu Zhiming, Dean of Aulin college, on behalf of the two universities, respectively reported the important information of the two universities to the JMC. On the one hand, Brett Berquist talked about the pandemic in Auckland and the concern and love of the University of Auckland for international students. And once again he expressed his gratitude for NEFU’s great support tothe UoA-NEFU CLC. On the other hand, Liu Zhiming introduced the education policies made by the Ministry of Education of the PRC during the pandemic, and talked about the teaching management of NEFU and Aulin college, as well as the relevant work of the UoA-NEFU CLC. In addition, Sebastian Link, Associate Dean (International) of the Faulty of Science of the University of Auckland, introduced in detail the postgraduate research direction in the University of Auckland towards students cultivated under the "3+2" mode of Aulin College.
The meeting focused on teacher training, scientific research cooperation, and the construction of education cooperation under the “new normal” and other related fields, and finally reached a consensus, which are bound to advance the development of Aulin College. Taking this meeting as an opportunity, focusing on the fundamental task of "enhancing morality and fostering talents," placing the development of the college in a dominant place, taking the "14th Five-Year Plan" which is quality-oriented and embraces the international view as the goal, and taking the comprehensive reform as the leverage, staff of Aulin College will endeavor to deepen our cooperation, strengthen academic exchanges among our teachers, promote the joint cultivation of PhD students, improve the education quality, and maximize our influence, additionally, to contribute to the improvement of our internationalized school-running ability, building a top-brand school with China-New Zealand cooperation, and the promising development of China-New Zealand cooperative schools.
