On the afternoon of October 30, theorientation for 2020international freshmenwasconducted online.Freshmen from 21 countries,representatives from the teaching staff and high grade internationalstudents met onlineto talk about the experience of this new semester and to learnaboutthe entrance education courses.

At the meeting, students first watched two video clips“Meet NEFU” and“1005Days inNEFU”, which showed campus life ofNEFU from the perspective of international students.

Luo Ying, Dean of theSchool ofInternationalEducation and Exchanges, delivered a speech at the meeting. She briefly introducedNEFU's history and the positive contributions made by the international students in protecting lives and health during theoutbreak. She said that althoughthe outbreak of COVID-19 delayed their gathering in reality, itnever stopped their exchanges.They could still carry outtheirteaching and other activities online, whichwas a unique andprecious memory shared among them. As for both study and life in the future, she encouraged thatastudent should always maintaintheacademic spirit of being diligent and inquisitive tobeanambitiousNEFU student; always embrace a global view and Chineseaffection to bea bridge ofcultural exchanges between China and the world;and always work together to promotecommunication among ourpeoplesto beapractitioner of building a community of shared future for mankind.

Li Yuhua, a professor oftheCollege ofLifeScience, delivered a speech on behalf of thefaculty advisers forinternational students. Shepraised that the international students she met were very excellent. She hoped thatfreshmenwould strive to improve their personal quality, build a solid professional foundation, continue the spirit of hard work, and be a new generation of outstanding international students inNEFU; Chinese teachers Hu Yujuan, Wang Ying, Zheng Xin, Jia Xiaoxu also sent their wishesto freshmen, hoping thatthey would learn Chinese well,get to know Chinabetter,enjoy the unique charm of Chinese culture, and be acultural bridge between China and foreign countries.

Ahmad, an upper grade student representative from Sudan, gave freshmen suggestions in the new semester. He confidently told them,“you will find that NEFU is not only a school, but also a big family. The teachers here will work with you to deal with any difficulties like family members.”His speech arose high participation among students with great enthusiasm. Armani, a freshman representative from Turkmenistan, expressed his expectation for NEFU campus and study life fluently in Chinese. He said that his dream of becoming a forestry engineer became closer to him after being admitted to NEFU, and he held a firm belief that he would achieve it one day with the help of teachers and students.

At the meeting, outstanding student volunteers were commended for being brilliantin thefight against theepidemic. Fourof them, including Indonesian students Faris and Surya, Mongolian student Ruisi and American student Ru Xian, shared their original intention and experience in the fight.

After the commendation and experience sharing, students took part intheentrance education, a compulsory courseevery new semester.Teachers ofthe School ofInternationalEducation and Exchanges introduced relevant regulations and requirements ofour countryand the university to the freshmen from the aspects of laws and regulations, teaching affairs, daily management and so on, so as to help students quickly start a new life.

Prior to this,School ofInternationalEducation and Exchanges hasorganized freshmen to visit and study inChina (Harbin) ForestMuseum.At this special moment when COVID-19continues to spreadworldwide,our university is focused on responding tothe pandemic actively and introduce online courses and safeguards to provide international students with quality online and offline education system.
