May 22 is the 29th International Biodiversity Day. An online thematic forum with the theme of“Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth”was jointly organized by the Northeast Asia Biodiversity Research Center, the Heilongjiang ProvinceDepartment of Ecology and Environment,the Heilongjiang ProvinceLeading Group Office of Natural Education,the Heilongjiang ProvinceEnvironmental Education Society, NEFU’s School of Forestry, the College of Wildlife Resources and relevant departments and organizations. The forum was chaired by Yang Bingyu, Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee and Deputy Dean oftheSchool of Forestry.

Sun Long, Dean oftheSchool of Forestry said that the Northeast Asia Biodiversity Research Center will join hands with universities and research institutes at home and abroad to build a top international biodiversity research team, focus on biodiversity conservation and management, establish a sound international biodiversity monitoring and cooperation network, and strive to make breakthroughs in major scientific issues such aschanging trends inbiodiversity, maintenance mechanisms, and key theories and technologies of species conservation in Northeast Asia under the current climate change context, so as to contribute to the conservation and governance of biodiversity in Northeast Asia and globally.

The forum was divided into two parts: thematic exchange and special report. In the thematic exchange session, the Northeast Asia Biodiversity Research Center, the Nature and Ecology Conservation Division of the Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment, the Provincial Environmental Education Society and NEFU’s Green Angel Volunteer Association introduced the overview of biodiversity conservation, research progress, experience and conservation practices in Heilongjiang Province.

In the report session, Prof. Mu Liliang and Prof. Zou Li from School of Forestry, Prof. Rongke from College of Wildlife Resources reported on the themes of“Charming Kingdom of Plants”,“Colorful Kingdom of Fungi”and“The Significance of Woodpeckers for Biodiversity”.

The forum aimed to promote and implement Xi’s Thought on Ecological Civilization, implement the spirit of the document“Working Guidance on Further Strengthening Biodiversity Conservation”,popularize the knowledge of biodiversity conservation, raise the awareness of biodiversity conservation among teachers and students, encourage the whole society to consciously participate in the cause of biodiversity conservation, actively explore scientific research in various disciplines, further promote the qualitative and stable development of biodiversity in Northeast Asia, strive to write the picture of building beautiful Heilongjiang and beautiful China, and contribute wisdom and strength to the realization of“Building a Shared Future for All Life”and ecological civilization.
