From November 13 to 15, the 2024 Global Surface Conference and the 12th Decorative Paper and Panel Custom Home Industry Chain Innovation Forum were held in Linyi, China’s “Plywood Capital.” During the event, three groundbreaking products co-developed by Northeast Forestry University (NEFU) and Shandong Xingang Group were recognized as achieving an internationally advanced standard: Bionic Formaldehyde-Free P2 Particleboard, Bionic Formaldehyde-Free P6 Particleboard, and Bionic Formaldehyde-Free P10 Lightweight High-Strength Particleboard. Professor Xiao Shaoliang, Dean of the Xingang Research Institute at NEFU, and Wei Ming, President of the Xingang Group and a doctoral candidate at NEFU, represented the development team and accepted the certifications on stage.

The research team led by Academician Li Jian of Northeast Forestry University (NEFU) and Shandong Xingang Group jointly developed these three innovative products. After 12 years of dedicated research and technological breakthroughs, the development process covered multiple stages, including experimentation, production validation, technical optimization, quality testing, and user applications. This comprehensive effort has confirmed the feasibility, stability, and maturity of the key technologies manufacturing bionic formaldehyde-free particleboards. Moreover, the green adhesive technology developed by Li Jian’s team, when combined with Xingang Group’s innovative capabilities, significantly enhanced the environmental performance of the products. This collaboration represents a tangible application of new productivity practices, driving technological progress and green development across the industry. It also sets a benchmark for integrating government, industry, academia, research, and application, offering valuable guidance for future scientific and technological innovation. Aligned with China’s “Dual Carbon” strategy and the “Healthy China 2030” plan, this advancement is pivotal in promoting the upgrade and application of green-engineered wood products and fostering industrial transformation and sustainable development.

The new product line of bionic formaldehyde-free particleboard, developed using the aforementioned innovative technologies, has been widely adopted by end-users and downstream customers. These products have demonstrated remarkable economic, social, and ecological value, marking a significant step forward in advancing particleboard technology to the HENF-level environmental standard era. This breakthrough has strongly supported the sustainable and green development of the healthy home industry.
