On May 18, the 2025 Xiangfang District Science and Technology Activity Week and the “Mobile Classroom” Science Popularization Event commenced at the Heilongjiang Forest Botanical Garden, themed “Unswervingly Pursuing Innovation-Driven Development to Build a Strong Scientific and Technological Nation.” Six schools from NEFU, including the College of Life Sciences, the School of Forestry, the College of Wildlife Resources, the College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Resource Utilization, the School of Humanities and Law, and the College of Landscape Architecture, formed 18 science outreach groups collaborating with the China Hengdaohezi Feline Breeding Center, the Heilongjiang Naoli River National Nature Reserve Administration, the Heilongjiang Forest Botanical Garden, Harbin Institute of Technology, Heilongjiang University, Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine, Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology, and Harbin University.
The event was carried out under the models of “Party Building + Science Popularization” and “Branches + Associations.” Centering on the core features of “Interactive Experience + Knowledge Dissemination,” it integrated diverse forms such as technology exhibitions, interactive experiments, and plant-animal specimen displays. Through fun projects like craft making, challenge check-ins, and blind box draws, it attracted teenagers, children, and families to participate, blending learning with pleasure.

At the event site, thousands of citizens were drawn to stop and participate in nearly 40 outstanding projects, which included those focused on science popularization, interactive experiences, and exhibitions. The science popularization on natural education featured bird specimen exhibitions with avian knowledge sessions, plant specimen displays with botanical knowledge talks, “Food Safety” science outreach, and legal knowledge promotion. The interactive experiences included “Self-Care” interactive activities, insect specimen exhibitions with hands-on preparation experiences, TCM therapy demonstrations, hands-on chemistry and physics experiments, combat robot operation trials, and pressed-flower bookmark and fan making. For exhibitions, there were displays of cold-resistant chrysanthemums, ginseng medicinal materials, and alkaline-tolerant chlorella, as well as the display of “Ice Flower Porcelain,” an intangible cultural heritage craft of Heilongjiang Province, and tips and practices for reducing plastic usage.
