From July 30 to August 1, 2025, the 9th Young Scholars Symposium on Terrestrial Ecosystems was held at Northeast Forestry University (NEFU). Academician Liu Shirong from the Chinese Academy of Forestry, Researcher Wang Kelin from the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture (CAS), Researcher Wu Qinglong from the Nanjing Institute of Geography & Limnology (CAS), Researcher Yan Junhua from the South China Botanical Garden (CAS), and NEFU’s Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Vice President Li Mingze attended the meeting. Over 200 experts and young scholars from more than 70 universities and research institutions, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, and the Chinese Academy of Forestry, participated in the event.

NEFU’s Vice President Li Mingze delivered the opening speech, introducing NEFU’s achievements in ecology and the progress made in the field. He expressed hope that this conference would further gather high-level academic resources, enhance cooperation and exchanges, and jointly promote scientific innovation and the development of an ecological civilization.

The conference focused on the theme of “Land Ecology and Artificial Intelligence,” addressing topics such as Global Change and Ecological Response, as well as Ecological Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. The aim was to explore the mechanisms of ecosystem response and regulatory strategies against the backdrop of global change, and to exchange the progress and development prospects of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, in ecological research. The event had an intense academic atmosphere, with active interactions that stimulated the innovation potential and cooperation among researchers, driving the continued development of the ecological discipline.

Academician Liu Shirong from the Chinese Academy of Forestry and Researcher Wang Kelin from the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture (CAS) gave invited reports during the conference.

During the meeting, participants visited the China (Harbin) Forest Museum and conducted a field inspection at the Northeast Forestry University Mao’ershan Academic Center.

As a key academic exchange platform in the field of land ecosystems in China, the Young Scholars Symposium on Terrestrial Ecosystems is dedicated to promoting the development of young research talent and fostering ecological research exchanges and collaboration. The 9th conference further highlighted NEFU’s important role and ongoing contribution to environmental research. The event not only broadened the scope of land ecosystem research but also provided an excellent platform for experts and scholars to promote the integration of basic research with cutting-edge technologies, contributing wisdom and strength to the country’s ecological civilization and sustainable development.
