Witnessing China’s First Gold at the Winter Olympics! NEFU Professor Invited as CCTV Commentator for the Milan Winter Games

On February 17, the men’s snowboard slopestyle final at the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics concluded, with Chinese athlete Su Yiming winning the first gold medal for China at these Games. During the event, Professor Fan Chunlai, a retired faculty member from our university's Physical Education Department, was invited by China Media Group (CMG) to serve as an on-site commentator for six events across two disciplines—snowboarding and freestyle skiing—at the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics. From an authoritative, professional perspective, he witnessed China’s historic gold-medal moment. He showcased the professional strength and industry influence of sports education at NEFU to viewers nationwide and worldwide.

During the Winter Olympics, Professor Fan Chunlai was responsible for commentating on six events across two disciplines—snowboarding and freestyle skiing—at the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics: Slopestyle (Ski/Snowboard), Big Air (Ski/Snowboard), and Halfpipe (Ski/Snowboard). Drawing on decades of professional experience in winter sports, he provided precise and insightful analysis from multiple angles, including competition rules, technical movements, and event evaluation. His commentary vividly showcased the fighting spirit and competitive strength of Chinese winter sports athletes, helping NEFU’s achievements and reputation shine on the world’s top winter sports stage.

Professor Fan Chunlai has played both a key role and served as a witness in the development of China’s snowboarding and freestyle skiing, from their beginnings to earning international recognition. Since the start of China’s snowboarding (halfpipe) team in 2003, he has been actively involved, beginning his career as a frontline scoring judge. With strong professional skills and a strict attitude, he gradually became a chief judge and has served as the head judge for many domestic snowboarding and freestyle skiing competitions, helping to establish China’s judging system and standards. For over twenty years, Professor Fan has been deeply involved in the sport, witnessing China’s progress from early exploration to breakthroughs and growth, culminating in Olympic success and notable achievements. Throughout this journey, he has seen every stage and leap forward of China’s snowboarding and freestyle skiing programs. He is also an international-level scoring judge for snowboard and freestyle skiing events such as halfpipe, slopestyle, and big air, as well as a national instructor for training judges. He has served as chief judge at the National Winter Games three times for snowboarding and freestyle skiing events and as a technical official at numerous international competitions, including the Snowboard World Cup and the Asian Winter Games.
