To further improve teachers’ teaching skills and the quality of classroom teaching, the Center for faculty development invited Sui Rubin, Distinguished Professor of Higher Education Institutions Teacher Online Training Center from the College of Basic Science of Harbin University of Commerce, to give a lecture on the theme of “Methods for University Teachers to Create Ideal Classroom Teaching Atmosphere” on March 15, 2017. More than 200 teachers attended the lecture which was chaired by Jiang Zhongzhu, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office.

Beginning from the stern situation facing current classroom teaching, Professor Sui Rubin then pointed out the biggest “natural enemy” of creating ideal classroom teaching atmosphere is monotony. He said that the leader of classroom teaching atmosphere is the teacher himself, thus a teacher should love his career, his students, and himself. He explained that elaborate design of every lesson is a reliable policy using his own course as an example. An effective way to create an ideal classroom teaching atmosphere is to bring teachers’ personal advantages and create their own unique style. Appropriate incentives, praise and criticism are also effective means. At the same time, Sui also stated the restricted areas when creating ideal classroom teaching atmosphere and emphasized all-round communication with students is a kind of sublimation and extension combined with his own teaching experience.

The lecture lasted for three hours. Professor Sui Rubin profoundly interpreted the ways and methods to create ideal classroom teaching atmosphere with humorous words and vivid examples. After the lecture, some participants communicated with Professor Sui. They believed his teaching skills are practical and effective, which are of great reference value for improving their own classroom teaching.
