On April 10th, Professor Li Zhiyi, member of the panel of China Engineering Education Accreditation Association was invited to deliver a lecture titled “Professional Accreditation Concept and Professional Teaching Reform” in order to further advance NEFU engineering education accreditation and revision of undergraduate cultivation programs, facilitate the modification of cultivation goals and requirements, optimize curriculum systems and ensure the fulfillment of cultivation goals and requirements according to the objective and positioning of talent cultivation as well as the relevant standards of engineering education accreditation. There were about 200 attendees, including leaders of colleges concerned, heads of majors and teachers. This lecture was presided over by Zhai Xuefeng, director of NEFU Teaching Affairs Office.

Professor Li Zhiyi centered on the necessity of professional accreditation, explaining “One Concept”, “Three Keys” and “Three Reforms” and introducing “Outcome-based Education (OBE) Concept”, “What Is Outcome-based Education”, “Why Do We Carry out Outcome-based Education and “How to Implement Outcome-based Education. He also gave a vivid example of the constitution of a human face so as to illustrate the relations of talent cultivation positioning, talent cultivation objectives and graduation requirements in simple terms. He pointed out that outcome-based education is designed to determine cultivation objectives, graduation requirements, curriculum systems, teaching contents and requirements in accordance with the demand of national, social and educational development, industrial development as well as job market. Prof. Li stressed the three key factors, which are “Student-centered Concept”, “Inverse Design” and “Continuous Advancement” in teaching design, teaching implementation and teaching evaluation. He also elaborated on how to assess learning outcomes, how to formulate cultivation programs and how to compile teaching syllabuses. In this lecture, Prof. Li stated that curriculum system reform, class teaching reform and teaching evaluation reform are the keys to implementing outcome-based education. Only when we set our cultivation objectives and graduation requirements, reformulate cultivation programs, stick to student-centered concept, reform class teaching, continue to change ideas and choose continual improvement mode according to outcome-based concept can we achieve new breakthrough in college teaching reform in order to accomplish the target of making students “gain delight in learning”, “know how to learn” and “master what have learned”.

This lecture has provided the attendees with a deeper understanding of the meaning of professional accreditation and its logical relationship with talent cultivation positioning, talent cultivation objectives, curriculum systems, class teaching and graduation requirements, which is of guiding significance to the advancement of professional accreditation, revision of talent cultivation programs and reform of class teaching of colleges of NEFU.
