1. Topic: Visiting Experience in Harvard Forest

About the Lecturer

Professor Wang Xiaochun, who is also a doctoral tutor, is a new century selected talent of the Ministry of Education in 2012. Born in October 1975, he received a doctorate in ecology in March 2004. Since then he has been engaged in the forest ecosystem response to global changes and adaptability research, especially the research in the field of dendrochronology. In addition, he has been focusing on the following aspects:(1) reconstruction of the fire history of Greater Khingan Range in the past 300 years by using tree fire scars, and analysis of the relationship between fire and climate and human activities; (2) the climate response of the coniferous tree species in the Greater Khingan Range and the reconstruction of the main climatic factors, especially on the relationship between the larch and the Pinus sylvestris var, and their response and adaptability of climate change; (3) disturbance history reconstruction of broad-leaved Korean pine forests in Lesser Khingan Mountains and analysis of annual ring climate response of main tree species (Korean pine, three hard broad and spruce fir); (4) response of Khingan larch wood anatomy to extreme drought and its adaptation mechanism. Until now,he has completed 3 National Natural Science Funds and more than 10 other projects, and published more than 70 papers, including 18 SCI search papers and 9papers as correspondent authors. Lectures on general ecology, forest ecology, landscape ecology, global ecology, and 4 publications.

About the Lecturer

Professor Yang Lixue has a doctor degree and is a doctoral tutor. Studied in NEFU in 1993, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1997, Master of Agriculture degree in 2003, Doctor of Science degree in 2006. In 2009 he finished his post-doctoral study in the Shenyang Institute of Applied Ecology of Chinese Academy of Sciences. From April 2012 to April 2013, he visited University of Montana for a year. In 1997, he worked at the Foreign Affairs Department of NEFU and worked in the forestry college since 2000. He was appointed as a lecturer in 2002, as an associate professor in 2007, as a professor in 2013. In 2010, he was selected as the young elite talents support program of NEFU. In 2014 - 2015, he won the individual title ofThree Aspects of Education,and was awarded the title ofOutstanding Party Member of Forestry Collegein 2016. His main research interests are the physiology and ecology of seedlings, the directional cultivation of plantations, interspecific effects among trees, and feedback from plant and soil. He has led 3 projects of National Natural Science Foundation, a project of Natural Science Fund of Heilongjiang province, a subject of major research project of Heilongjiang Province, 2 basic scientific research projects for the Central Universities Special Funds (C and E), a post-doctoral project funded by Heilongjiang provincial government, 5 horizontal projects. In addition, he has participated in the several projects of National Natural Science Foundation and “984 project” funded by the National Forestry Bureau. He will undertake a national key R & D project. His lectureSeedlingswere awarded Excellent Courses in Heilongjiang province. Since 2010, he has published more than 20 articles in the core journals both home and abroad as the first author or correspondent author. Among them, 8 papers were collected by SCI and 2 papers by EI. He has also published 1 monograph. He won three prizes for Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Heilongjiang province.
