This program is a provincial key program and a national characteristic program. This program aims to cultivate highly qualified versatile professionals with a solid theoretical foundation, proficient professional skills, as well as the capacity to analyze, illustrate and settle issues of biotechnology. Our graduates are qualified to engage in research, teachin research institutes and institutions of higher learning, conduct fundamental and practical research, or work in technological development and promotion, production organization and management, and industrial management concerning biotechnology in the fields of industry, agriculture, forestry, environmental protection, medicine and food.

Key courses: Biochemistry, Cytobiology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Principles and Technology of Genetic Engineering, Principles and Technology of Cell Engineering, Principles and Technology of Fermentation Engineering, Principles and Technology of Biopharmacy etc.


Recommendation for Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies

22.81% of 2016 graduates have been recommended to be postgraduates without examination. 12 graduates have been admitted by other universities, including 1 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2 by Nanjing University, 1 by Nankai University, 1 by Tongji University, 1 by China Agricultural University, 3 by Shandong University, 1 by Jilin University, 1 by Harbin Institute of Technology, and 1 by Northeast Normal University.

Further Study through Passing Postgraduate Entrance Examination

31.58%of 2016 graduates pursue further study through passing the Postgraduate Entrance Examination, with 100% having gained admission to graduate schools of “Project 985”and “Project 211” universities.

Studying Abroad for Further Education

12.28% of 2016 graduates have gone abroad for further study, mainly at prestigious universities such as the University of Birmingham in England and Sejong University in South Korea, etc.


In 2016, the employment rate has reached 92.98%. Our graduates obtain employment mainly in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai the provincial capitals of Heilongjiang and Shandong provinces etc. as well as coastal developed cities.


Biotechnology is a focus of the strategy of national economic development. With the rapid development of biotechnology, this field requires a group of highly qualified biotechnology professionals. Our biotechnology program is a national characteristic program and one of NEFU’s dominant programs. It has cultivated a multitude of highly qualified leading talents in the research, innovation and management of biotechnology for our country. Accordingly, through attending theoretical and experimental courses, practicing with definite goals, and participating innovative experiments, our students can acquire not only the intricate theoretical knowledge and research methods associated with plants, animals, medicine and microorganism, but the technology and principles of industrial development so as to lay a firm foundation for employment and entrepreneurship. I am deeply convinced that more excellent graduates will play an active role in management departments, research institutes and enterprises related to biotechnology. I firmly believe that a group of excellent graduates will start their own business, like biological high-tech enterprises and take the lead in the biological industry.

Li Yuhua, Professor, Ph.D. supervisor, Dean of College of Life Science, Academic Leader ofthe Developmental Biology Discipline, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Tokyo, Japan, “Longjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor, Winner of Special Government Allowances, Member of the Appraisal Panel of National Bioengineering Degree. In the past 5years, he haspresidedover 9 Projects, including National Natural Science Fund Projects and National “Project 863” Projects, publishingover 50 Academic Papers, with over 20 Included in SCI. He was awardedsecond Prize of the 2014 Heilongjiang Science and Technology Progress, 5 National Patents for Innovationfor Breeding New Varieties of Flowers, and has achieved the industrialization of thelarge scale production of ginseng and its associated technology

Students’ View

The curriculum design of the Biotechnology Program is quite student-oriented for we can make our own decisions to choose suitable domains of our program so as to acquire more targeted knowledge. In addition to gaining theoretical knowledge in class, a majority of courses are combined with relevant experimental courses as well as comprehensive practice so that we can not only make flexible use of our specialized knowledge, enhance our handling capability, but foster the capacity of independent thinking, analysis, problem-solving and teamwork to enhance the efficiency of problem-solving in our future study and work.
