OnMarch 30, 2021,at5:56 a.m. local time in Bangladesh,with the completion of the last can of concrete, the PAIRA bridge in Bangladesh, which wassupervised and monitored by Professor Wang Lifengfrom the NEFU School of Civil Engineering, was successfully completed.

The PAIRA Bridge Project in Bangladesh is an independent project won by Long Jiang Road & Bridge Company Limited through international bidding in March 2016 under the background of “One Belt, One Road” proposed by China. The project is located at Lebkari Ferry Terminal in Borisal, Bangladesh, spanning the PAIRA River, and is a key project on the Borisal-Boduakhali Highway. The total length of the bridge is 1470m, with the span arrangement of 16×30m+(115+2×200+115)+12×30m. The main bridge is a three-tower, single-cable deck prestressed concrete short tower cable-stayed bridge with a tower-beam attachment system, with the lower portion using bored piles. The pile diameter is 2.5m, and the longest pile length is 130m.The total investment is 936 million RMB.

The construction monitoring project team, formed by several PhDs from the School of Civil Engineering, overcame the difficult construction environment and successfully achieved a high-precision bridge closure. During this period, the construction monitoring project team carried out the iterative operation and multi-parameter sensitivity analysis based on the finite element algorithm of front loading and backward dismantling method, and realized the advance settlement prediction and setting of the pre-arch of the whole bridge. The project team proposed a new method for optimizing the design of the cable force of single bundle of 91 cables in single tensioning mode, whichgreatly improved the accuracy of cable force control and the construction progress. They also conquered the technical problems of dynamic and high-precision adjustment of the elevation of the standing mold in the process of tensioning the diagonal cables in batches, and assisted the project department to break through the technical problems of large pile diameter extra-long bored pile, large deep-water construction platforma, large pile diameter thick-walled permanent steel sheathing penetration, and large deep-water high pile bearing platform construction. Xiao Ziwang, a 2019NEFUdoctoral student of Road and Railway Engineering, has been persevering in the front line of the construction, making an important contribution to the implementation of construction monitoring. With the joint efforts of many parties, the PAIRA bridge project has accumulated fruitful engineering experience and achievements, which is a solid foundation for the high-precision closure of the bridge, a guarantee for the operation of the whole bridge, and a strong proof of supporting the national strategy“One Belt, One Road”. Meanwhile, the construction monitoring project team from NEFU was highly evaluated and appreciated by the owner (Bangladesh National Highway Authority), the construction unit (Longjian Road & Bridge Co., Ltd.), and the supervisory unit (ICT).
