Recently, the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Education and the Provincial Sports Bureau jointly awarded NEFU the “outstanding contribution award of the first Students Winter Games of Heilongjiang Province, 2017.”

The first Student Winter Games of Heilongjiang Province was inaugurated on February 6 at the hockey stadium of Harbin Institute of Physical Education. The purpose of the Games was to implement the instruction "encourage two or three million people to do winter sports” brought up by President Xi, and to stimulate the development of winter games in our province. What’s more, the government also hopes to promote the popularization of winter sports and increase the participation of young people into them by holding school competitions. During the games, more than 100 volunteers were sent to the campaign activities and athletes as well to participate in the competition. They really showed the first-class spirit of NEFU!

Over the years, guided byNational Higher Education Curriculum Guide for Physical Education, NEFU has offered ice physical courses in combination with local climate and situation of the university. Students all take a skating course in their outdoor projects with free skating equipment on the skating rink, which is also free of charge to the community. In addition, NEFU holds fun sports meetings on the ice regularly as well as a series of winter activities, such as snow sculpture competition, ice and snow photography competition, and ice and snow lectures. NEFU even invested hundreds of thousands of RMB to purchase a snow machine and ice equipment, and provides technical support for the ice and snow festivals. NEFU also gives support to ski enthusiasts, and has more than 200 members in the snowboarding association and the ski association. Every snow season, sports instructors carry out activities at their own expense. In 2015, the snowboarding association organized a students’ activity on the Ma Jiagou trail.

The series of winter sports enrich the students’ life after school, cultivate their interests, and enhance their physique. More importantly, through those activities more and more students join in winter sports with enthusiasm year after year.
