Thereading guidance activity“Two-hour Appointment” of the 11thChengdong Academy of Classical Learning was held at the Multifunctional Lecture Hall ofNEFU library on schedule. Sun Dawei, counselor of Grade 2013, College of Economics and Management was invited as the guest of honor to introduceCarmen, the novel written by Prosper Merimee, a French realistic writer, playwright and historian and the opera of the same name based on Prosper Merimee’ novel, created by Georges Bizt, a French composer. Thechiefs of the Publicity Department of NEFU Party Committee, library and NEFU Youth League Committee and about 200 teachers and studentsattendedthis event. All seats were occupied in the Lecture Hall. Some students were even seated on the ground, listening attentively to the interpretation of the lead reader.
The novelCarmenis the masterpiece of Prosper Merimee, a French realistic writer. The interpretation of Sun Dawei provides readers with the creation background and influence of this novel. The novel indicates that the new productive relations gave rise to the change of values when the bourgeoisie took power after the French Revolution and reveals the degradation of social morality, people descending to be slaves of money due to the prevalence of money worship.
Then Sun Dawei guided the attendees to appreciate the operaCarmenand introduced the relevant information about opera through the analysis of classic pieces. Under his guidance, the attendees got to know that a number of well-known music pieces, such asCarmen OvertureandChanson du Toreadorwere from the operaCarmenand began to show greater interest in opera.
At the end of this reading guidance activity, Sun Dawei presented his proposals on how to appreciate the art of opera.
