The conference on the preparation for the conclusion of the “Transgenic Breeding Research of Trees and Flowers” Project (863 Project) hosted by Professor Yang Chuanping of NEFU was held on August 31st. More than 50 leaders, experts and graduate students attended the meeting, among which included scholars from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Northeast Forestry University, the Chinese Academy of Forestry, Beijing Forestry University, Nanjing Forestry University, the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, Zhejiang University, Huaiyin Normal University, and Northeast Agricultural University.

The meeting was presided over by Pan Jianping, the executive vice-dean of the Institute of Science and Technology of NEFU. Li Bin, President of NEFU, delivered a speech on behalf of the project support units. He warmly welcomed the arrival of all the leaders and experts, and thanked the Ministry of Science and Technology and relevant research institutes for their strong support of NEFU for many years. President Li Bin also briefly introduced the organization and implementation of the project. Dr. Sun Kangtai, the Project Specialist from the Ministry of Science and Technology, conducted a detailed explanation of the purpose of the conference, the achievements of the project, and the requirements of the project’s conclusion. He also introduced the planning of the forest seed industry.

Professor Yang Chuanping, the chief expert of the project, gave a brief explanation of content of the project, the implementation of the funds and other requirements. Subsequently, the leaders of the 6 subjects carried out detailed reports on the implementation of the relevant subjects and the use of funds. After hearing the reports, the expert group evaluated the implementation of the project and the budget, and put forward constructive comments and suggestions on the next task. All 6 subjects are progressing smoothly, and the tasks have been fulfilled according to the plan. Finally, Professor Yang Chuanping made a concluding speech.He pointed out that later study and the conclusion of the subjects are very important. The leaders of the subjects should further create advanced research findings, and make substantial contributions to the molecular breeding of trees and flowers in China.

The convening of this conference has promoted the progress of many subjects, and has also played a guiding role in the conclusion of the entire project.
