On the morning of September 11th, the orientation ceremony for 2017 freshmen was held in the gymnasium of NEFU. NEFU leaders, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, deans of colleges as well as heads of functional departments concerned attended the ceremony. 2017 freshmen of both undergraduates and postgraduates were present. Chen Wenhui, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of NEFU, presided over the orientation ceremony.
At 9 a.m., the ceremony began in the solemn national anthem.
On behalf of NEFU, faculty and students, Li Bin, President and Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of NEFU, expressed sincere wishes to the 2017 freshmen. He appreciated that the newcomers chose NEFU at the critical moment of their life. President Li Bin affirmed that NEFU is a university with history and profundity; a university of connotation and elevation; a university of responsibility and extensiveness. He remarked that you have become an integral part of NEFU, a new beginning for you to pursue and fulfill your dreams and the spiritual home for you to cherish and treasure.
As both president and academic senior, President Li Bin raised expectations for the 2017 freshmen of undergraduates and postgraduates. To those who will commence the new chapter of their life, he said that college years are so precious that they should be spent attaining delight from a wide range of books and never be wasted; you should read decorous books to pursue lofty ideals; read erudite books to absorb extensive knowledge; read pragmatic books to devote to entrepreneurship and innovation.
At the end of his speech, President Li Bin expressed his hope that in the upcoming school life, all the freshmen should combine the “individual dream” of growth and achievement with the “Chinese dream” of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the “NEFU dream” of developing NEFU into a world first class university, taking NEFU as a platform, displaying youth and individuality and leading brilliant lives so as to write down glorious chapters that live up to the great age, the ardent anticipations of loved ones and the earnest edification of teachers.
Chen Guangsheng, Dean of College of Information and Computer Engineering, Liu Jintong, Vice President of the Student Union, a student of 2014 of Social Work, College of Humanity and Law, Cui Wei, a student of 2017 of Light Chemical Engineering, College of Materials Science and Engineering, Yang Wanting, a postgraduate student of 2017 of Accounting, College of Economics and Management, head of the 7thEducation Assistance Group of NEFU Postgraduates respectively represented teachers, enrolled students, freshmen of 2017 undergraduates and postgraduates to deliver speeches.
Chen Wenhui, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of NEFU, concluded that you should bear the expectations of both teachers and parents in mind, strive to be worthy of the high anticipations of both NEFU and the society, seek the truth and acquire new knowledge in the following academic life, help each other and shoulder accountability in the forthcoming campus life so as to elevate your dream in constant struggle, illuminate your youth in unremitting endeavor, realizing your own dream in the process of the accomplishment of the “Chinese dream” of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
