A few days ago, Niu Xiaoting, the teacher of NEFU, won the title of 2017 “Longjiang Artisan”. This selection was an actual measure for Heilongjiang Federation of Trade Union answering the call of developing and promoting “Artisan Spirit” and building the “Longjiang Artisan” brand. With NEFU’s recommendation and strict preselection and the selection from Heilongjiang Federation of Trade Union, 100 master artisans from different careers in Heilongjiang were given the title of “Longjiang Artisan”. There were 2 people from education field in Heilongjiang, including Niu Xiaoting.

Niu Xiaoting is a Deputy Professor of College of Material Science and Engineering and a Director of NEFU China Ancient Furniture Research Center. Since the establishment of this center in 2013, Niu Xiaoting has made contribution to inherit and develop China wood-made culture actively, created and kept enriching the teaching and scientific research platform, trained wood-made inheritors of the new generation for nation, promoted Chinese Artisan Spirit and spread China Ancient Furniture Culture and Ancient Aesthetics of Life. His Ming Dynasty furniture adopts Burmese pear, white tepa and thousand-year ebony as basic materials, national intangible cultural heritage, skills of making Jing style hardwood furniture, as technical support and traditional tenon structure and manual wood-made skill. The furniture represents over 30 classic Ming style furniture including bedroom, study-room, hall, tearoom and so on, demonstrates the single Ming style furniture’s beauty of lines and modular Ming style furniture’s beauty of space, wins high praise from leaders of nation and province, and receives great commendation from experts in the industry.  

“Artisan Spirit” is a kind of occupational spirit, which shows professional ethics, professional abilities and professional qualities. Also, it is a value orientation and behaviors for employees.
