On the afternoon of October 24, Party Secretary Zhang Zhikun was invited as a guest of "Human Library". As a "walking book," he guided readers through the sea of books and talked about Chinese history and culture with readers in the title ofChinese History and Traditional Culture.
At the beginning of the event, Zhang cleverly described himself as a street book, making readers feel amused.
During the lecture, Party Secretary Zhang Zhikun discussed Chinese history and traditional culture from three aspects: Chinese history and culture, Chinese feudal systems and the ancient Chinese education system. Mr. Zhang's lectures showed a wealth of historical and cultural knowledge to his audience, which benefited them greatly.
Taking Confucian culture as an example, Zhang Zhikun advocated abandoning the dross and inheriting the excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation. He emphasized that the inheritance of national culture influences the character of a nation. The 19th National Congress proposed that we should enhance our cultural confidence and use our excellent traditional culture to reshape our national character.
Party Secretary Zhang said that the continuation of the Chinese system for two or three thousand years is enough to prove its unique charm. It has profound historical value and positive modern significance. He said that China's civilization has never stopped. China's civil service system is quite advanced compared with the aristocracy, religion, and politics in the West.
He also stressed that the strict selection of the education system in ancient China provided a strong support for the civil service system in China. He said that excellent Chinese traditional culture had provided the Chinese nation with spiritual nutrients. We all should recognize the superiority of traditional culture and learn as much as we can.
In response to the question that "the history of praising sages in China makes people feel suspicious of history," he explained that this culture was not unique to China. The "divine right of kings" is a common phenomenon in human history. In Chinese, there is also an old saying "Is there anyone born as a king, duck, general and minister?” This revolutionary spirit against the nobles is also very common in Chinese history.
When asked what method was used to accumulate such rich knowledge, he talked about two things: First, we should read extensively to gain wisdom from books; second, we should recite a great deal and everyone should be able to recite some classic works.
He also recommended to readers the books such as theAnalects of Confucius,Book of History,The Book of Songs,The Great Learning, the Doctrine of the Mean,History of the Han Dynastyand the ancient Chinese poetries, and hoped that more readers could inherit and carry forward the excellent Chinese traditional culture.
The Party Committee Propaganda Department, the leading group of the library, and the Youth League participated in the event. Business Promotion Director Zhao Yilin presided over the activity.
