Onthe evening of November 18th, the grand final of the 15th“Challenge Cup” National Undergraduate Curricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition closed successfully in Shanghai University. Through the three days of closed review and site Q & A, “A Couple of New, Green, Efficient and Recyclable Remediation Materials of Water Environment—-Multifunctional Nano Composite Materials Based on the Cellulose and Carbon Aerogels of Waste Biomass” by a NEFU Team led by Wan Caichao won the Third Prize.

With the theme of “New Dynamics of Youth and Innovative Challenge of Future”, this competition attracted the participation of more than 2 million college students from over 2000 colleges and universities. After the selection at university level, contest at provincial level, national preliminary review and final review, the total of 755 works of 314 universities were selected into the final competition. The work, “A Couple of New, Green, Efficient and Recyclable Remediation Materials of Water Environment—-Multifunctional Nano Composite Materials Based on the Cellulose and Carbon Aerogels of Waste Biomass” by a NEFU Team led by Wan Caichao,utilizes the waste biomass as raw materials to develop green and high performance absorbent materials that can dispose of the contaminated water with heavy metal ion, oil or dye via modification and hybridization technology. During the final competition, there were approximate 12 experts who raised questions about the work on site successively. All the members of the NEFU team answered the questions in a composed manner, elaborating on the advantages of the work from a variety of perspectives and showing the excellent NEFU style and innovative capacities.

In recent years, with the purpose of fulfilling the proper organization of the “Challenge Cup” competition, as well as the close attention paid by NEFU leaders coupled with the substantial support provided by the relevant functional departments, the Chinese Communist Youth League Committee of NEFU officially launched “Chengdong Cup” Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in 2015 and included the Undergraduate Curricular Academic Science and Technology Competition in it, accomplishing the effect of “Preparing Early and Fostering Fully”. During the last two years, a multitude of NEFU students have participated in the Competition, with 312 teams of about 1600 students taking an active part in it. In the 15th“Challenge Cup” National Undergraduate Curricular Academic Science and Technology Works  Competition held in June this year, there were 20 works of NEFU selected into the final competition, winning 3 First Prizes, 7 Second Prizes, 10 Third Prizes as well as the Excellent OrganizationAward. The Chinese Communist Youth League Committee of NEFU selected an observation group of 11 members to acquire knowledge and experience from this Competition. During the Competition, the members of the observation group strived to gain valuable experience with the contestants and exchanged insights and views with teachers and students from other universities. Through the close observation and inspection of the curricular academic science and technology works by the students from higher institutions all over China, both the contestants and the observation group members greatly broadened their thinking and vision about innovation and entrepreneurship, further enhancing their capabilities and confidence to promote their scientific and technological innovation, accumulating essential experience and laying a firm foundation for the next “Challenge Cup” Competition.

With the principle of “Admiring Science, Pursuing Truth, Striving Diligently, Innovating Creatively, Confronting Challenge”, the “Challenge Cup” National Undergraduate Curricular Academic Science and Technology Works  Competition is held every two years known as the “Olympic Games” of innovation and entrepreneurship for the contemporary undergraduates, playing a crucial role in fostering the growth of youth talents in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship, advancing the reform of quality education of universities and boosting economic and social development.
