The 15th China Post-Graduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling was successfully held at the Ocean University of China on December 8 and 9, 2018. The theme of this contest was “All Rivers Run into Sea • Numbers Build the Future.” The NEFU team won a first prize and three excellence awards, which is the best result since NEFU began participating in this contest. In the 15th contest, a total of 12,211 teams (36,633 post-graduates), including 474 Chinese colleges and universities from 32 provinces, cities and regions and 14 foreign universities, participated in the contest.
The China Post-Graduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling is one of the top ten national post-graduate competitions, co-sponsored by the China Academic Degrees & Graduate Education Development Center and the Chinese & Youth Science Center. The purpose is to stimulate the innovation, vitality, and interest of the post-graduate students, to improve the comprehensive ability of establishing mathematical models, and using computers to solve practical problems, to broaden students’ knowledge, to cultivate the spirit of innovation and teamwork, and to promote post-graduate education reform. It also enhances the exchanges and cooperation among universities, research institutes and enterprises.
One entry can benefit you for the rest of your life. The first prize team of NEFU is guided by Zang Rui, teacher from the College of Science, and is composed of Miao Qian, Deng Yingjian and Guo Jiaxin, three postgraduate students from the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. They have been carefully preparing for the contest since June of this year. After the team preparation, online registration and other preparatory work, they worked hard in the finals, and in the end, won the award with the innovative ability and cooperation spirit of NEFU people.
In recent years, our students have made great achievements in competitions at home and abroad. This is an important manifestation of the implementation of the new development concept, and a full demonstration of the effectiveness of the education and teaching reform. The Post-Graduate College (Party Committee Graduate Work Department) will further adhere to the requirements of the "quality, green, innovation, cooperation" concept, and continue to innovate in terms of ideas and methods, strengthen the construction of basic disciplines, innovate students’ practical ability training, and deepen the reform of postgraduate training mechanism. These all have helped NEFU to become a “double first-class” university.
